Position Overview: The Assistant Estimator will play a key role in supporting the estimating department through detailed quantity surveys and material takeoffs for structural steel fabrication and erection projects. This role requires a highly organized individual with a keen eye for detail and a passion for precision, contributing to the preparation of accurate project cost estimates and bid proposals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed quantity surveys and material takeoffs from design drawings and specifications.
- Assist in analyzing project documents to identify and document project requirements for materials and labor.
- Support senior estimators by organizing and maintaining material and cost data.
- Collaborate with the project team to ensure the accuracy and completeness of takeoff data.
- Prepare and maintain records of quantities, costs, and other project data for reference.
- Assist in identifying potential risks and discrepancies in project documents and communicate findings to senior estimators.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings to better understand project scopes.
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (some post-secondary education in construction, engineering, or related fields is a plus but not required).
- Basic proficiency with computers and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work accurately and efficiently.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings is an advantage.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new software and processes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Prior experience in construction or estimating is a plus but not required—we are willing to train motivated candidates.
