BARNWELL COUNTY CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICTSeeking ApplicationsVACANCY ANNOUNCEMENTPOSITION:Assistant Football Coach- Williston-Elko High SchoolGENERAL SUMMARY:An Assistant Football Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Coach by coaching student athletes, recruiting, monitoring student athlete academic progress, scheduling, managing travel and scholarships and overseeing the discipline, conduct, and image of the student athlete. This classification is applicable for the major revenue sports of football. QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma/GED +3 years of coaching experience; OR
- Associates degree
JOB DUTIES:
- Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with the head football coach.
- Coach team members individually and in groups; and demonstrate game techniques. May manage a designated skill development area or group of positions (offense, defense, linebackers, quarterbacks, receivers, etc.)
- Develop and recommend game strategy and position assignments.
- Participate in the selection and fitting of team equipment.
- Promote the athletic program and specific sport through community events, public speaking, fundraising, and marketing.
- Help to monitor academic progress and status of team members, implementing action plans through appropriate staff when needed.
- Help to monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student athletes to support the image and reputation of the athletics program.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSPositions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

KEY ELEMENTS:
- Follow and uphold the policies and mission statement of Barnwell County Consolidated School District.
- Plan, organize, and direct the Football program alongside the head football coach.
- Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team development.
- Ensure that team rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of the athletes are clearly communicated and followed.
- Plan, organize, advertise, and conduct tryouts for the football program; inform Head football coach and participants of final selections. Maintain the integrity of the selection process.
- Consult with the Athletic Director regarding any off-season training programs including scheduling dates for summer camps/practices, uniform fitting, pre-post tryout informational parent meetings.
- Attend informational parent meetings at the beginning of each season for all levels.
- Create a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Work directly with school athletic trainer in reporting injuries, teaching precautions and procedures to ensure staff/student safety and help students prevent injuries.
- Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards opposing team, fans, parents, officials, spectators and community. Applicants for this position must have previous high school coaching experience. The applicants must possess a positive coaching philosophy, and excellent communication and organizational skills.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE Pass a background and SLED check when coaching on the public-school level.Have experience playing on a football team.
- Bachelor's degree preferred; must have a high school diploma or GED with 6 years of coaching experience in the sport.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Have past experience as an athletic coach, particularly in football.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- A great deal of time is spent on the football field or weight room arena.
- Time will be spent in a locker room with players or in a film room reviewing past games.
- The noise level could become high particularly during games.
- A great deal of standing, walking back and forth on the football field and even lots of bending.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:Must complete all certification courses from the SCHSL and the NFHS.Updated February 7, 2023
