Role Overview:

Could you be our next Associate General Counsel, Insurance Regulation? Globe Life is looking for an Associate General Counsel, Insurance Regulation to join the team!

In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring and researching regulatory compliance issues relating to insurance operations for the Globe Life family of companies, and preparing summary analysis, drafting documents and making recommendations. Serves as a liaison with state insurance departments. Provides prompt, professional advice to colleagues where necessary.

Legal research and writing skills are critical and projects will range from drafting memos for team members and GC to reviewing documents before submission to regulatory authorities. Will assist with market conduct exams and coordinate with various internal departments.

This is a hybrid position located in McKinney, TX (WFH Monday & Friday, In Office Tuesday-Thursday).

What You Will Do:

  • Assist with product development support, working in conjunction with other business units, to draft and review policy forms, benefit riders, applications, brochures or other related materials as needed.
  • Review and analyze proposed and pending state and federal legislation and regulations.
  • Review regulatory change notifications received from third-party vendors, state insurance departments, industry sources, etc. and the distribution of relevant regulatory change notifications to applicable business units.
  • Provide research and analysis of compliance issues pertaining to the Globe Life family of companies and provide interpretations regarding statutes and regulations.
  • Conduct legal research inquiries when requested.
  • Monitor the privacy legal and regulatory landscape, including collaborating with business partners on the impact and requirements for existing and emerging privacy laws while working with outside counsel as appropriate.
  • Assist in the implementation of statutory and regulatory requirements when required.
  • Assist with market conduct exams and similar state insurance department inquiries.
  • Assist with Market Conduct Annual Statement (MCAS) Reporting, which includes collection and review of data from business units and interpretation of MCAS requirements, including implementation of any reporting changes from prior years.
  • Performs other duties as directed or as situation dictates.

What You Can Bring:

  • Juris doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed member in good standing with state bar.
  • 3 to 5 years related work experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with competency in grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Demonstrated research and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong proofing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to conduct accurate and organized research.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with competency in grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Strong interpersonal and organization skills required.
  • The ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Independent self-starter with the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.
  • Familiarity and efficiency with Westlaw.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to analyze information and make logical conclusions.
  • Preferred but not required: familiarity with statutes and regulations impacting the insurance industry and corporations generally, prior experience working in a compliance department of a life or health insurance company.
