Job Description
Assistant General Counsel
About the Position: The incumbent will support the functions of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and represent the agency, its Board, and personnel in legal proceedings. This position is responsible for handling a wide range of legal matters, including but not limited to employment law, constitutional law and civil rights, EMTALA, mental health law, departmental investigations, legislation, policies, ethics, and litigation in state and federal courts as well as other tribunals. The incumbent will prepare and litigate both routine and increasingly complex cases. This position may be filled at Level II, III, or IV, depending on the selected candidate's qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Level IV: Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and member in good standing of the Oklahoma Bar with a minimum of seven years' experience in practicing law.
Level III: Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and member in good standing of the Oklahoma Bar with a minimum of five years' experience in practicing law.
Level II: Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and member in good standing of the Oklahoma Bar; and two years' experience.
Preference may be given for civil and administrative litigation and trial experience.
Special Requirements: Must be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
