Job Description:

Temple Health is seeking a labor and employment attorney to serve in a new role, Assistant General Counsel, Labor and Employment, to serve in Temple Health's legal department. This attorney will provide legal counsel on a wide variety of labor and employment matters, including internal investigations, HR policies, hiring, accommodations, leave and employee discipline, and assist with the defense and management of employment related administrative charges and litigation, including claims of discrimination, wage and hour litigation, labor grievances, and unfair labor practice charges.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 5+ years of experience in a law firm, government and/or in-house setting to provide strategic counsel for a large and diverse workforce at a leading academic medical center at the forefront of addressing inequities in health in North, Northwest and Northeast Philadelphia and Eastern Montgomery County. Practical and effective experience in a variety of labor and employment matters, including counseling and litigation experience, are requirements for this role. Experience with the legal issues faced by health care providers, academic medical centers and/or universities would be helpful but not required for this role. Most important for success in this role is intellectual curiosity, and a desire to advance the legal interests of a leading academic medical center and its mission of providing the highest quality medical care in the Philadelphia community and supporting world-class medical research.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Effective management of a variety of labor and employment law issues

• Conducting and advising HR on investigations into internal complaints

• Collaboration with HR on day to day employee issues (e.g. requests for accommodation, leave issues, discipline issues, etc.) and policy review and implementation

• Conducting and advising HR on investigations into internal complaints

• Outside counsel management

Qualifications

• Holds a J.D. with excellent academic credentials.

• Brings 5+ years of experience in a top law firm, government agency and/or sophisticated corporate legal department.

• Has a current Pennsylvania bar admission or admission in another jurisdiction with the ability and interest in becoming licensed to practice in Pennsylvania.
