The Assistant is responsible for all aspects of golf course maintenance as directed by and in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Direction and supervision of the maintenance staff (the Assistant is a working staff member).
  • Perform the daily mowing, grooming and manicuring of the greens, tees, fairways, roughs, driving range, clubhouse lawns and plantings, cart paths and parking areas.
  • Equipment operation and repair, irrigation system operation and repair, fertilizer application and integrated pest management (mixing, loading and application of pesticides).
  • In the 'off season' the Assistant Superintendent shall perform annual maintenance on equipment as well as snow removal at the golf course.
  • Supervises temporary employees in the presence of and/or in the absence of the Superintendent
  • Assists in the delegation of duties and inspection of work performed by temporary employees.
  • Provides input to the Superintendent to help influence decisions regarding hiring of staff, equipment repair and/or replacement, golf course renovations and general golf course maintenance.
  • Responsible for the daily and annual mechanical maintenance of golf course equipment as well as minor building repair and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of large turf irrigation systems, pump stations and related components.
  • Working knowledge of necessary applications of fertilizers and pesticides in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Ability to balance customer service and high-quality playing conditions with employee safety, golf course play schedule and varying weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding of the game of golf and golf course etiquette.
Qualifications
  • Must have a minimum of high school diploma (or equivalent); a two-year associate's degree in a turf-related field, or equivalent experience in a turf-related field is preferred.
  • Assistant shall, within six months of hire, possess a valid Wisconsin Commercial Pesticide Applicators License for turf and ornamental landscape.

  • Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, carry and lift as needed.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work in an outside environment in a variety of temperatures and adverse weather conditions.
