Duties and responsibilities include assisting in formulating policies, and managing daily operations. Under supervision of the PGA Head Professional, assist in managing the golf and club house operations; manage the golf and club house operations in the absence of the PGA Head Professional; and perform related work as assigned. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to follow a management philosophy that is input oriented and values equity, problem solving and the development of partnerships; and be a team player; and desires to be part of an organization that values service, integrity, responsibility, innovation and teamwork.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The employee in this class is responsible for assisting the PGA Head Professional in all aspects of the golf and club house operation including concessions, inventory control, club repair, organizing golf leagues, outings, tournaments and junior golf, player development, merchandising, golf instruction and golf course management of play. Work includes supervising and assigning the work of seasonal employees. Assignments and general directions are received from the PGA Head Professional. Work is reviewed and evaluated by the PGA Head Professional through operating records, fiscal records, inspection of the facilities and effectiveness of services provided. Job Duties
- Assist with organizational operations, projects, or services; sales, marketing, or customer service activities; financial operations; startup and closing procedures; check in and fee collection; control and management of play; and supervision, direction and training of employees.
- Prepare staff schedules or work assignments.
- Determine pricing for products and services.
- Monitor performance of staff members.
- Provide basic, golf league and tournament information to guests, golfers, visitors, pass holders or clients.
- Provide individual and group lessons.
- Develop organizational policies or programs; organizational goals or objectives; and marketing plans or strategies.
- Hire personnel.
- Conduct employee training programs.
- Assist in fiscal goals; operational decisions or activities; financial records; running electronic tee sheet; scoring; prize distribution; merchandising; player development; golf instruction; golf course management; customer service; supervision, direction and training of employees; tournament operations and set up; league and weekly events; and golf cart operations and staging.
- Determine inventory and operational needs.
- Recommend organizational process or policy changes; and suggestions and improvements.
- Plan facility layouts for pro shop merchandise and clubhouse concessions services.
- Handle daily profit.
- Maintain current knowledge on PGA requirements; and records.
- Inform supervisor of work progress.
- Participate in the city's intercultural competency training program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Clerical - Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, Excel, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
- Accounting - Knowledge of accounting principles, procedures and practices, banking and deposits along with the reporting of financial data.
- Sales and Marketing - Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services including public relations, marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
- Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective distribution of goods.
- Golf Course Administration - Knowledge of golf course clubhouse, pro shop, golf cart and food/beverage operations; knowledge of golf course management practices, standard techniques of playing golf and golf instruction.

QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or its equivalent supplemented by coursework in community recreation, park and recreation administration, business administration, exercise management, sports administration of related field;
- PGA Apprentice, PGM student or desire to purpose PGA membership;
- Or the equivalent education and experience.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a state driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Management, Sports Administration or related field.
- 2 years or more work experience in a public or private golf course.
