DescriptionAssists the Head of School with leadership, direction, supervision, operations, and student/staff accountability at the Upper School. Plays an integral role in the establishment and maintenance of the school's culture that is conducive to learning, while enforcing state and IB Charter regulations for compliance. This position requires evening hours according to special events scheduled occasionally. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in providing leadership to the professional staff in determining objectives and identifying school needs as the basis for developing long and short-term plans for the school
- Assists the head of school in the overall administration of the school and assumes leadership of the school in the absence of the head of school
- Maintains a commitment to ongoing growth in self and others, supporting and participating in school professional growth programs
- Record and analyze data to disaggregate PSSA's and other assessments according to groups and sub-groups as it related to York Academy in relation to PA and national standards
- Conducts classroom observations on instructional staff; provides input feedback to the Head of School
- Creates and maintains partnerships with parents and community
- Implement instructional and assessment strategies by attending meetings, facilitating discussions amongst teachers and staff and working with Instructional Coaches/Coordinators to plan professional development.
- Relates to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy
- Participates with teaches and other staff, along with team leads and program coordinators, in the development of materials and methods for the delivery of personalized instructional programs
- Oversee staff providing instruction in alternative educational programs including Special Populations, ESOL, and Title I
- Promotes a collaborative environment amongst the entire Upper School team
- Maintain knowledge of the state curriculum standards and the IB framework to lead teachers
- Organize acumen for planning curriculum and activities for the current year and beyond
- May represent the building at out-of-building committee meetings for various committees assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Over three (3) plus years of teaching experience as a teacher
- PA Administrative certified or willing to enroll in a program to obtain principal certification.
