Overview:
The Assistant Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading technicians engaged in preventative/predictive maintenance of underground mining machinery. Develop a team vision focused on world class performance by applying the principles of reliability centered maintenance and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, any one of the following assigned areas:
- Ensure scheduled PM procedures are properly executed and conducted as scheduled.
- Provide work order and machine performance feedback to the maintenance supervisor at the conclusion of each shift.
- Oversee and develop the technical skills of the technician work force.
- Ensure corrective actions are completed correctly and in a timely manner.
- Set the highest standard for safety, accepting nothing less than zero accidents.
- Ensure all work planning, execution and documentation processes are followed.
- Work and train mine maintenance personnel in the most reliable, safe and efficient methods of equipment and system maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Provide technical expertise, leadership and assistance for ancillary improvement projects as assigned.

- Maintain a time and project management approach, completing tasks within time and cost criteria, and blending internal and externally controlled resources.
- Promote a safe environment and ensure compliance with all safety programs and policies.
- Ability to set priorities for subordinates on shift at work locations and to follow-up to ensure priorities has been met.
- Develop an atmosphere of joint cooperation and respect between all departments.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Will provide authority of knowledge to Maintenance Supervisor and all members of mine management.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience
- College level Mechanical Degree or equivalent technical training/experience preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working with mechanical systems in a mine environment required
- Team Lead/ Supervisory experience preferred
- Proven leadership skills and consistent success in providing leadership / management in a mine environment.
Certification/Licensure
- Must have MSHA electrical cards.
- Must have Examiners Papers.
Knowledge of
- Thorough knowledge of all underground mining practices, equipment and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of all state and federal laws and regulations governing the mining of coal.
- Knowledge and ability to make decisions relative to production, maintenance, law and safety.
Skills, abilities and physical requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to coordinate with all levels of management.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong sense of closure; complete what you start.
- Ability to read and understand mine plans.
- Ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Physical Requirements:
- Stand for 6 to 10 hours on uneven rocky surfaces
- Walk for up to 8 hours at a time in uneven and wet conditions through sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom.
- Lift up to 70 pounds without mechanical assistance. Work from elevated positions, walk or climb up and down stairways and ladders and climb on and off of equipment and must be able to bend or stoop for a full shift as a result of the mine height.
- Don and wear required safety equipment including SCSR, respirators, hearing and eye protection, and protective clothing.
