Scope of Position
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Comprehensive Cancer Center- Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute are committed to improving people's lives through innovation in research, education, and patient care. Clinical Labs is responsible for pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic functions on clinical specimens to obtain information about the health of a patient as pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease; assisting care providers with clinical information related to patient care, education and research.
The James Molecular Diagnostics and Genomic Program(s) Assistant Manager collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of pathologist(s), director(s) and hospital leadership and utilizes in-depth anatomic pathology knowledge, project management and influencing skills to integrate the anatomic and clinical pathology aspects of molecular diagnostic and genomic testing. This position administers policies and executes procedures / protocols involving block selection, IHC and molecular orders.
Position Summary
The Assistant Manager serves as a leader and mentor within the program and throughout the Anatomic and Clinical laboratories. This role serves as a subject matter expert for Beaker molecular assay ordering, and workflows that involve external customers, block acquisition, block selection, special cuts, and redirection of outside slides. The Assistant Manager participates in professional organizations and workgroups to promote the image of the organization externally. Responsible for leading people including conducting performance management, reviewing pay, and typically making employment decisions. Accountable for business or operational processes and/or program management. Utilizes business acumen and industry or discipline knowledge to directly or indirectly influence others.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire:
Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences, Health related Sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience. 3 years of relevant experience in Anatomic Pathology or Histology experience in a highly regulated work environment is required, 4-8 years is preferred. A Pathology Assistant degree and certification in lieu of more years of AP experience is acceptable.
Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology in Medical Technologist, Medical Lab Technician, Medical Lab Scientist or specialized certification required.
Knowledge and use of process improvement methodologies and clinical compliance/lab auditing is required. Strong analytical skills written, and verbal communication meeting facilitation and team leadership required.
Ongoing: This person must demonstrate competency to meet essential job functions and the ability to adapt to the rapid changes that occur in the health care setting. Maintains and seeks new knowledge related to regulatory oversight, quality improvement, billing regulations, and current policies, procedures, and protocols. Must meet mandatory educational and health requirements.
