Position Title Assistant Manager, Recording Studio Position Number 896443 School/Division Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences-Humanties Department Full-Time or Part-Time Full-Time Description Reporting to the Department Chair and the Coordinator of Music Technology Department, the Assistant Manager, Recording Studio is primarily responsible for the management of the new recording studio. The candidate will perform highly skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework and instruction in the Music Department. The successful candidate will frequently share their knowledge with student technicians, providing educational benefits to the student experience in addition to managing student workers. They will collaborate with faculty and IT to improve and maintain the audio equipment inventory, creatively working to improve equipment usage. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in the production of recorded and live sound, equipment troubleshooting, basic repairing, and adaptability in receiving and accommodating audio needs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Sets up, maintains, and organizes student laboratories. Assists students with setting up experiments and other learning exercises and with the use of equipment and materials. Maintains appropriate safety and hygiene standards. Maintains required documentation related to laboratory activities. Manages equipment and materials inventories. Manages the sound and recording at all Music Department concerts and events. Installs and maintains equipment in Music Technology classrooms; purchases additional equipment as needed. Assists instructors in advising students to use music software and other technical features, provides troubleshooting support, and removes equipment after classes. Manages instrument rentals for music classes and performances. Supervises student aides. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required. At least 5 years related professional experience working in recording studios and music production. Profound knowledge of the use of audio mixers, workhorse audio equipment, wireless systems, instrument amplification, and microphones. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work well with diverse audiences, manage workload independently at times, and oversee ongoing projects concurrently. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in music production & engineering preferred. Master's degree in Music or related field. Basic familiarity with large consoles (preferably SSL Origin).
