Title: HJMS Assistant/Music Director (Part-Time / Seasonal)Description: Simsbury Public Schools invites applications for the position of Assistant/Music Director for Henry James Memorial Schools, grades 7-8, to join our skilled Performing Arts department. The Assistant Director works under the supervision of the building administration and collaborates with the creative team, K-12 Director of Music and Performing Arts, and members of the Performing Arts Department. The Assistant Director oversees the music performance element of the show and assists with other aspects of the production. Qualifications: - B.A. (or higher) in Music /Performing Arts / Theatre Arts or a related field, preferred but not required, with appropriate training and experience
- Previous experience supporting theatrical and musical productions or serving on the production team
- Secondary teaching experience and a current teaching certificate are added benefits but are not required for this role.
- Must be available for after-school rehearsals and some weekends.
Responsibilities: - Oversees the music performance element of the show and assists with other aspects of the production
- Assists in identifying potential musical(s)
- Coordinates with volunteers and professionals to support the production (i.e., music/assistant director, choreographer, production manager, technical director, etc.)
- Develops and maintains strong parent and community volunteer support and relationships for the performing arts program
- Cultivates relationships with various stakeholders to build support for the musical
- Helps with casting and setting the rehearsal schedule
- Attends and leads music rehearsals
- Works closely with the student tech crew/production team
- Performs other duties related to the production as assigned by the administration and Director of Music and Performing Arts
Compensation: $1939 stipend per BOE contract This position does not qualify for benefits.
