General purpose of the job
The Assistant Controller is considered a key member and strategic partner to the Plant Leadership Team(s) with primary responsibilities to support the PLT in the development and analysis of the annual budget and monthly forecasts for plant costs and capital expenditures and to provide internal / external reporting as necessary. The Assistant Controller will need to have a solid understanding of operations and will assist in the development of local team members on financial acumen. This position supports a good standing in the community, sustainable operations, and adheres to and upholds all company policies, safety standards and federal / state regulations.
Role & Responsibilities
* Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial metrics, highlighting trends and areas for improvement. Collaborate with key business and finance partners to improve financial forecast effectiveness and accuracy.
* Support the broader finance team and plant leadership team(s) in ad-hoc projects and initiatives to address specific financial challenges and opportunities.
* Lead the coordination of the fixed asset and physical inventory counts, providing monthly review/adjustments of inventory balances.
* Lead monthly internal financial performance reviews conversations in order to gain detailed understanding of variances to forecast and budget.
* Actively participate in the month-end closing process through analytical review and coordination of accounting processes with Corporate Finance Team.
* Accounting of inventory activity and expense postings such as consumption of materials, job cost adjustments, etc.
* Work with operational management to address concerns such as waste, production inefficiencies, etc.
* Oversee plant capital expenditures to ensure costs are recorded in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
* Prepare annual personal property declaration for designated location(s).
* Work with internal and external auditors on review materials and manage audit processes to efficient and successful results.
* Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of the financial systems, processes, and data, comply with Sarbanes-Oxley, and enhance the Company's value.
* Recommend and assist in implementation of solutions for improvements in accounting operational processes.
* Other duties may be required and will be assigned as necessary.
Abilities Skills & Knowledge
* Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or closely related field; or 15+ years demonstrated progressive experience with thorough understanding of accounting and public company reporting and policies.
* Proficiency in complex financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting with a solid understanding of GAAP and Internal Controls.
* Must have a high level of integrity and commitment to comply with all applicable federal / state / industry compliance, record keeping, regulations and standards.
* Must be a self-starter with strong strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to function in a fast-paced and evolving business.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
* Strong Interpersonal capabilities with ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, while building rapport with team members across functions/operating units and influencing at all levels of the organization
* Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites with accurate data entry skills.
* Due to the nature of this position, it is essential that the teammate be available to report to the designated work site / office and be ready to begin work when scheduled,
* Must be able to pass pre-employment screening which may include a physical, background check, and drug screen.
Education
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or closely related field; or 15+ years demonstrated progressive experience with thorough understanding of accounting and public company reporting and policies.
Area of experience
Finance/Accounting, experience leading a corporate accounting team including experience in an IFRS and US GAAP reporting environment, Prior similar management experience in a corporate finance or accounting function, Big 4 Accounting experience is preferred.
