Job Description: Assistant Preconstruction Manager - Renewable Energy
Company Overview: Metric Geo is partnered with a pioneering force in accelerating the transition to renewable energy, specializing in integrating smart energy solutions into new and existing buildings and infrastructure. The client develops, constructs, owns, operates, and maintains integrated solar, battery storage, and electric vehicle (EV) charging assets.
Position Overview: My client is seeking an experienced Assistant Preconstruction Manager to join their expanding EPC team. This role will focus on developing and managing an efficient procurement infrastructure, overseeing construction-related subcontract and services engagements from preconstruction through project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external experts to review and refine project estimates across various stages (conceptual, schematic, design development, construction).
- Identify and engage potential EPC partners suitable for project requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive RFP bid packages, manage the bidding process including Q&A sessions and site visits.
- Evaluate and streamline RFP bids, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project needs.
- Develop preconstruction strategies and assess potential risk factors in consultation with senior management.
- Ensure contract and major purchase order compliance with project documents and budgetary constraints.
- Coordinate the development of construction schedules for each project and provide ongoing cost analysis.
- Facilitate transition meetings between development and construction teams to ensure seamless project handover.
- Conduct site visits to verify conditions, meet with prospective bidders, and engage with local stakeholders.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of construction methodologies, materials, costs, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and qualify new material suppliers and subcontractors, maintaining an updated subcontractor database.
- Collaborate with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) and utilities to navigate project approval processes and mitigate key operational risks.
- Support sales and development teams with constructability analysis and project feasibility assessments.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, supply chain management, or logistics preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in estimating, scheduling, budgeting/cost control, financial reporting, and client relationship management within the renewable energy industry.
- Proven track record in managing preconstruction processes for major, complex projects.
- Familiarity with procurement software and databases for efficient project management.
- Strong understanding of contract negotiation, invoicing processes, and terms.
- Previous experience as a Procurement Manager or Assistant Preconstruction Manager is highly desirable.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time as needed.
