What do we need:

The Preschool Assistant Teacher works with the preschool staff to provide a warm, loving atmosphere and classroom based on a philosophy of trauma informed principles and goals. The Preschool Assistant Teacher works with the Preschool Teacher & Lead Teacher to support the academic and social development of children ages 3-5 years and their parents at People Serving People in compliance with program guidelines, policies and procedures, implementing developmental assessments, maintaining active supervision of children, assisting teachers with preparing lesson plans, promoting parent participation and assessing/screening children's learning. Must be able to work and plan in a team setting, with patience, enthusiasm and respect for children, as well as parents and fellow staff. Must have working knowledge of early childhood development.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with providing comprehensive services to children three to five years of age.
  • Assists in facilitation of approved curriculum for young children in a developmentally appropriate setting based heavily in social-emotional development.
  • Assists with designing a safe and attractive learning environment.
  • Welcomes, talks with and/or meets with parents as needed.
  • Assists with implementing developmental assessments, child observations, anecdotal records, and other relevant information to share with the team.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of Rule 3 Licensing Guidelines, all relevant Health and Safety regulations, principles of Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP), and established agency policies and procedures.
  • Performs related administrative duties.
  • Strictly adheres to the highest standards of confidentiality and ethics when working with children, parents and peers.
  • Collaborates with People Serving People's teaching staff as needed.
  • Assists in other Early Childhood Development Program classrooms as necessary for ratio, including classrooms at both early childhood sites.
  • Completes all required hours of in-service training annually.
  • If assigned to the location of Float, staff will be required to work at multiple locations and will be expected to support all classrooms, children ages 0-5 years.
  • Performs other duties assigned as necessary.

Pay and Benefits:

  • $25.00 hourly
  • Full-Time, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.

  • A current Preschool CDA credential or a state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, OR enrolled and actively pursuing an AA/AS or BA/BS in Early Childhood Education or a degree in a related field.
  • 6 months of experience in an early childhood setting, 9 semester credits.
  • Preferred: CDA, Associates in child development or early childhood education, or bachelor's in any field
  • Ability to use or learn computer software programs such as Brightwheel, Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies (to name a few).
  • Experience as an assistant teacher, aide, or student intern in an early childhood center.
  • Experience working with early childhood children in a childcare center preferred.
  • Experience serving multi-cultural, socially diverse population desired.
  • First Aid and CPR certified or willing to be certified within the first 90 days of work.
  • Understands and can implement and build on the trauma-informed framework of our classrooms.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care principles and models, understands the impact of toxic stress on children in a shelter setting.
  • Knowledge of basic health and first aid techniques.
  • Ability to determine the needs of children.
  • Ability to teach developmental, social, and emotional skills.
  • Ability to establish a warm and supportive relationship with the children and their parents or guardians.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and have the stamina to model best practices in the classroom and act appropriately in an emergency situation.

Compensation details: 25-25 Hourly Wage
