  • Master's degree from accredited college or university
  • Valid Mid-Management or Principal certification
  • Certified in the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS)
  • Pass Bilingual or ESL exam through the Texas Education Agency. After two unsuccessful testing attempts, employee must attend 6 hours of ELL professional learning provided by the MISD's ELL Department. Must be completed by the end of the first contract year.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Three years of experience as a classroom teacher
  • Three years of experience in instructional leadership roles
Position Function/PurposeTo provide leadership in the operation of the school by assisting the principal.Essential Functions Instructional Management1. Evaluate instruction within classrooms, assess the effectiveness of the instructional program, and initiate improvements as appropriate.2. Assist in evaluating instructional materials and recommend the most appropriate items available for the purpose of facilitating effective instruction.3. Promote the active involvement of teachers in curriculum development and implementation.4. Assist in providing curriculum coordination and balance.5. Assist in interpreting grading policies for students.School/Organization Climate1. Assist in maintaining a school atmosphere which promotes effective learning.2. Assist teachers, where necessary, in becoming sensitive to the needs, interests, and feelings of students.3. Assist in the coordination of an effective guidance program.4. Understand thoroughly the services of pupil, counseling, and nursing personnel and assists in directing pupils, teachers, and parents to the appropriate services.5. Assist in the campus PEIMS coordinationSchool/Organization Improvement1. Assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.2. Participate in planning and revising the school handbook and other school publications.3. Assist in the development of the master schedule for the school.4. Assist in the maintenance of required forms and student records.5. Participate with the principal in developing and implementing school policies.Personnel Management1. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff; serve as a second appraiser in the Professional Development and Appraisal System.2. Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new instructional staff.3. Assist in selecting, assigning, training, supervising, and evaluating the performance of support professional staff.4. Assist in obtaining and orienting substitute teachers.Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management1. Assist with inventories and with the ordering and distribution supplies.2. Assist in the administration and organization of business affairs, especially the development of school budgets.3. Assist in coordinating the use, maintenance, security, and repair of the school building, equipment, and grounds. 4. Assist in the organization and coordination of transportation which services the school.5. Assist in the administration and supervision of the cafeteria.6. Assist in grouping and assigning pupils to classes.7. Share responsibility for the direction of school calendar, activities program, and assemblies.Student Management1. Assist in student disciplinary matters.2. Assist principal and faculty to ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.School/Community Relations1. Promote the understanding and implementation of the Midland Independent School District's philosophy, goals, and objectives.2. Assist in the articulation and coordination of the educational program. 3. Assist in planning, evaluating, and leading faculty, departmental, grade-group, and/or parent meetings.4. Initiate and maintain appropriate communication with parents.5. Assist in coordinating activities of the various school advisory committees and the PTA.Professional Growth and Development1. Formulate, with the principal, an annual Assistant Principal Professional Development Plan.2. Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.3. Use information and insights provided through assessment instruments, the district appraisal process, evaluative feedback from line supervisors, and professional development programs to improve performance.4. Provide leadership in addressing challenges facing the profession; pursue professional development activities; disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.5. Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary for job effectiveness.Special Knowledge/Skills1. Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction2.
