Who We AreSince its founding in 2010, Challenge Preparatory Charter School (Challenge Prep) has provided students and families with a successful academic program in Far Rockaway, Queens. We currently serve over 1200 scholars from Kindergarten to 12th grade across 3 sites. Our school'smission is to prepare students from the greater Far Rockaway community to excel academically, to demonstrate mastery of the NY State Learning Standards, and to achieve their career aspirations. Challenge cultivates and supports the intellectual, aesthetic, social, emotional, and ethical developmentof its students and prepares them to be responsible 21st century citizens. Understanding the Role The Assistant Principal (AP) is an instructional and strategic leader responsible for leveraging teacher performance to ensure students demonstrate significant and measurable results. This position reports to the Principalof their assigned grade span (K-5). The AP is a deliberate coach and effective manager responsible for helping teachers and scholars realize their full potential by providing high-quality coaching and feedback to teachers so that they develop their instructional practice at an accelerated rate. The AP works collaboratively with the school leadership team to develop a school-wide culture of respect and achievement and a team culture grounded in common goals, mutual respect, empathy towards others, and an appreciation of diversity. He/she is a next generation educator who is a critical thinker and innovative problem solver with a high level of emotional intelligence.Overall Job Goals and Responsibilities:
- Serve on School Leadership team: collaborate with team to determine school-wide professional development, establish and develop curriculum and assessment needs to meet all school goals
- Coach and develop teachers to establish the foundations for successful classrooms through: ambitious vision and goal setting, purposeful long-term planning; and developing and administering rigorous assessments, building strong relationships, and establishing positive classroom cultures
- Coach, manage, and develop a caseload of teachers to achieve exceptional achievement from their students
- Observe teachers weekly to gather data on student learning and teacher proficiency, to diagnose teachers' strengths and weaknesses, determine strategies for improving their practice and improving student learning; document findings in TeachBoost
- Provide a wide variety of learning opportunities for teachers focused on analyzing student work, effective planning, targeted and differentiated instruction, and setting high expectations for classroom culture and behaviorP
- Provide professional development to implement the education program; assist with the development of and oversee the school's new staff orientation
- Use data systems to organize and analyze student achievement data; ensure the validity and reliability of student data by attending to the rigor and alignment of assessments
- Use data to inform decision making, to develop and modify curriculum, and to develop targeted and differentiated instruction
- Meet with teachers regularly to discuss data trends; problem solve with teachers to prioritize the teacher actions that will most impact student performance
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Senior Director of Teaching and Learning

- Strong understanding of rigorous, effective instruction
- Ability to analyze data to target instruction and inform decision making
- Experience designing and implementing curriculum and assessments aligned with Next Generation Learning Standards
- Practical knowledge of data management tools, organizational tools, computer skills
Qualifications
- Preferred candidates for the position will have at least three (3) years of teaching experience
- Master's Degree in Education or Educational Leadership
- School Building Leader certification preferred

$110,000 - $120,000 a yearThe salary offer is based on year(s) of classroom teaching and leadership experience, educational requirements, and NYSED certification.
