As an Assistant Production Manager at one of our Alaska seafood processing facilities, this role is responsible for overseeing daily operations and ensuring production efficiency. They supervise production teams, manage schedules, and implement quality control measures. This role involves maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards, as well as addressing employee concerns and training staff. Additionally, Assistant Production Managers may be involved in cost control, inventory management, and continuous improvement initiatives. Essential Functions/Qualifications The responsibilities of the position include the following:
- Develops and implements daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules to meet plant demands and optimize resource utilization.
- Oversees quality control procedures, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and plant specifications.
- Supervises and motivates production teams, providing guidance and training to improve performance.
- Identifies opportunities to streamline production processes, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
- Monitors inventory levels of raw materials and finished goods, ensuring adequate supply and minimizing stockouts
- Coordinates with maintenance teams to ensure proper equipment operation and timely repairs.
- Enforces safety protocols and regulatory compliance, including HACCP and FDA regulations.
- Monitors production costs and identifies areas for cost reduction.
- Troubleshoots production issues and implements solutions to minimize downtime and maximize output.
- Prepares regular reports on production metrics, quality control data, and operational performance.
- Other duties are to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful.

- Seafood Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of seafood processing techniques, quality standards, and industry regulations. Minimum of 3 years' experience in processing required.

- Equipment Knowledge: Familiarity with various seafood processing equipment and machinery.
- Quality Control: Proficient knowledge in HACCP and SSOP; OSHA standards and regulations; Fair labor standards; Workmen's comp principles and good manufacturing practices.

- Problem-Solving: Skill in identifying and resolving issues related to production, quality, or safety.

- Communication: Effective communication skills to interact with team members, management, and customers. Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Education and Experience
- BS/BA degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in seafood or food manufacturing management in positions of progressive responsibility. Extensive experience working in various roles such as production, quality control, or management, is crucial.
- 3+ years of seafood industry leadership experience required.
- Proven experience in managing and leading teams.
- Prior production and food safety training and certifications are preferred.
Work Environment and Schedule While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Position requires onsite presence at our Alaska Processing Facility, and the ability to travel, spending a significant amount of time during the season at our various locations and processing facilities in Alaska. Physical Demands While performing the essential function and job duties associated with the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
