Expected to begin Fall 2025, this tenure-track position will be responsible for teaching various accounting courses to undergraduate and graduate students, covering topics such as taxation, data analytics, accounting information systems, and/or auditing, depending on the accounting department's needs. Research leading to publications, student advisement, along with departmental, college, and university service is expected. Faculty are further expected to be actively engaged on campus and contribute to an energetic educational environment. The Accounting Department prepares students for careers as accounting professionals in a modern and global society. We are part of the School of Business & Economics which is internationally accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). We offer students a broad-based education with a global perspective and an emphasis on experiential learning. As SUNY Plattsburgh is an institution that delivers challenging and high-quality educational experiences to a diverse group of learners, the successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity, inclusion, and equity-minded policies, programs, and practices. The successful candidate may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format.
Required Qualifications:
* ABD or holds a Ph.D. in Accounting. ABD will be considered for appointment at a lesser (qualified) rank and salary, upon proof that the applicant's defense of their dissertation will be scheduled within the first year of the appointment. A successful ABD applicant will receive a promotion to the rank of Assistant Professor and a salary increment at the start of the semester following verification of the terminal degree completion. An ABD hire will be limited to a one-year appointment, subject to renewal for one year only (2 years maximum).
* Relevant teaching experience in accounting courses with evidence of teaching effectiveness
* Commitment to excellence in teaching and service in an institution dedicated primarily to undergraduate education
* Academically qualified, at the time of appointment, with respect to AACSB standards (A record of consistent publication of articles in scholarly journals or evidence of a promising research stream will be necessary to ensure qualification under AACSB)
* Working knowledge of online teaching platforms and the willingness and ability to teach in Online and HyFlex modes
* A demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff, students, and administrators, and a strong commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community
* Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
* Ph.D. by the time of appointment
* Teaching experience at an AACSB-accredited school
* Holds professional certification (e.g. CPA, CMA, CFE, CIA, CISA, etc.)
* Teaching experience in Taxation, Data Analytics, Accounting Information Systems, and/or Auditing courses
