Appointment:

75% Texas A&M AgriLife Research and 25% Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, 12-month, non-tenure track appointment with Texas A&M AgriLife Research - Beeville Station and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. Graduate Faculty status is approved through the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University, College Station. Encouraged to pursue adjunct faculty appointment with the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will serve a critical need for Texas A&M AgriLife Research Station - Beeville Station, which is a satellite of Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Corpus Christi, in the development of a dynamic, independently funded program focused on beef cattle production systems involving grazing lands, both introduced pastures and rangelands, in the south Texas plains region. The priorities of the Texas A&M AgriLife Research & Extension Center at Corpus Christi are to conduct cutting edge research that results in resilience in environmental sustainability and production, economic strength, and health and nutrition. Works to assemble and lead multi-agency and trans-disciplinary faculty teams in conducting applied, systems integrated research on ruminant animal nutrition, animal-forage-soil nexus, animal health, and environmental quality in relation to industry needs and state and federal policy. Enhances synergy of statewide programs through research and technology transfer/outreach collaborations with other faculty at affiliated agencies and institutions in south Texas, including Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University Department of Animal Science, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, among others. Collaborative team opportunities include creation and utilization of novel methods, including remote sensor applications, models, and critical metrics for evaluation and assessment of animal nutrition, energy, and environmental management across species and disciplines with the goal of improved cattle productivity, efficiency, and environmental protection. The successful candidate will implement outreach in livestock production by working closely with the current Extension Meat, Beef Cattle, Livestock, Range, Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, and 4-H Specialists to develop, implement, and evaluate programs. This person will also work to extend research and technologies to livestock producers and trade associations and assist these groups with problem solving needs. Supervises research personnel, including graduate students, undergraduate students, and Research Scientist for the laboratory and feeding facility. A majority of the 1,322 acre research farm is available for grazing research by the cattle herd. Oversees management and operation of a laboratory and experimental cattle feeding facility. The qualified candidate will serve as Graduate Faculty in the Department of Animal Science in its effort to achieve excellence in Quantifiable Animal Performance and Cattle Adapted to Tropical and Subtropical Environments. Faculty positions with Texas A&M AgriLife Research are non-tenure track.

Administrative Relationships:

This 75% Research and 25% Extension position reports directly to the Center Director, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center-Corpus Christi, with academic affiliation to the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University, College Station. The Associate Department Head for Extension in the Animal Science Department will oversee the Extension portion of this position. Directs the work of senior support staff and other technical personnel and graduate students assigned to the project.

Qualifications (Required):

Ph.D. in Animal Science is required. Experience in area of specialization, including beef cattle production systems and quantifiable animal performance; ability to write grant proposals to secure external funding; experience in multi-institutional and/or trans-disciplinary research; development and implementation of Extension programming; evidence of publishing in peer-reviewed journals; and participation in professional societies; leadership skills and capability to assemble and work with multidisciplinary/transdisciplinary teams. Ability to travel to conferences and to complete field research is required. Ability to communicate effectively. Competence in the use of personal computers and appropriate statistical-analysis software is required.

Qualifications (Preferred):

Experience in leading research; demonstrated capability to perform independent research, supervise scientific support staff and graduate students, and publish results in refereed journals.
