Title: Assistant Professor - Medical Laboratory Technology

General Summary: The Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Program Faculty is a creative, knowledgeable, and flexible individual who provides classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction in a MLT program that serves a diverse student body and community. Subject areas include: Urinalysis and Body fluids, Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Serology, Clinical Chemistry, and Immunohematology. The faculty member will instruct courses in both the day and 11-month accelerated programs and work with the program Coordinator to eventually assume this role in the near future; work with other faculty in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program; participates in college service and student advisement. The faculty is committed to inclusive excellence and diversity, and continuous professional improvement. These duties are performed in the fall and spring semesters.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Provide classroom instruction for sessions, which last up to four hours. This requires preparation of materials, conducting lecture/discussion, for a group of up to 20 students, using a variety of instructional materials and technologies. Didactic instruction also includes exam preparation, proctoring, correcting, grading and posting of exam grades.

* Provide laboratory instruction, which includes didactic presentations, demonstrations, skill remediation and evaluation of skill competence in a timely manner and according to department policy. Lab instruction may also include preparation of equipment and materials for labs as well as securing/putting away equipment after the conclusion of the lab.

* Post and conduct office hours in his/her office space as required by Article XII of the MCCC Agreement.

* Participate fully in department meetings including NAACLS accreditation self-study, team taught course collaboration, assessment work, and calibration activities.

* Participate in college governance and college service as required by Article XII of the MCCC Agreement.

* Provide academic advising for students on an ongoing basis.

* Develop instructional materials that comply with established course content, support program student learning outcomes, and clearly define: course goals, measurable student learning outcomes, learning activities, and assessments.

* Utilize assessment data to improve teaching performance.

* Demonstrate professional knowledge, skills, attitudes, and standards of conduct at the college, classroom and laboratory setting.

* Implement all department and division policies as well as applicable college policies and demonstrates ethical and professional behavior.

* Collaborate effectively with all faculty in planning, implementation and evaluation of student experiences.

* In collaboration with the program coordinator and program faculty, plan, implement and evaluate the program of learning in compliance with college processes as well as appropriate regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.

* Participate in professional development activities and continuing education to remain current in one's area of expertise in accordance with licensure and NAACLS accreditation standards.

* Assist with daily operation of the program by collaborating with the program coordinator and providing recommendations including but not limited to scheduling; equipment purchasing and maintenance; budget monitoring; inventory of supplies and equipment, hazardous waste disposal, writing and maintaining lab policies and procedures, orienting and mentoring adjunct faculty and participating in biannual advisory board meetings.

* Provide leadership and mentorship for students within the department.

* Establish, maintain, and monitor departmental policies and procedures that support effective, responsive, high-quality education.

* Participate in college recruitment activities, i.e. open houses, K-12 partnerships, visit high schools, and industry as appropriate to identify pathways to enrollment in MCC Health programs.

* Assist Program Coordinator with organizing and developing student clinical practicums and assist with coordination of these placements with external agencies.

* Assist the Program Coordinator with utilizing high impact practices such as learning communities, capstone courses, service learning and collaborative projects as part of pedagogical practices.

* Other duties within the program as needed or assigned by the Dean of Health

Requirements:

* Masters degree in a Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Education or other related field.

* Minimum of two years laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in field of medical laboratory science.

* ASCP BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.

* Teaching experience in a higher-education, industry or clinical setting.

* Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities

* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

* Ability to think critically and creatively

Preferred Qualifications:

* Doctoral degree in a Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Education or other related field.

* Interest in leadership and growth

* Knowledge of Community College academic programs, services and culture preferred.

* Demonstrated experience with accreditation agencies for health profession programs is strongly preferred.

* Experience in teaching the following subject areas: Urinalysis and Body fluids, Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Serology, Clinical Chemistry, and Immunohematology.

* Demonstrated ability to provide a variety of alternative instructional methodologies and assessment strategies.

* An understanding and commitment to the role of the community college in higher education.

Please note, the faculty rank of Assistant Professor may be subject to change in accordance with Article XVII of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Salary Range: $72,338 is the starting salary for Column H under the MCCC 2024 Salary Grids for an Assistant Professor; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
