About this position

Are you ready to develop the next generation of agricultural entrepreneurs and researchers? Schreiner University's new Agriculture and Natural Resource Management department is looking for an enthusiastic leader with a background in animal science, horticulture, agricultural economics, or agricultural engineering to join the Schreiner University faculty and guide this program into a successful, sustainable future. This new program will build on strong regional and educational foundations to graduate students ready for new and emerging theories and practices such as craft agriculture, precision farming, rewilding, meat analogues, and regenerative agriculture.

As the only Agriculture and Natural Resource Management baccalaureate program in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, we offer a research field station with vineyard and community garden, a thriving environmental biology program, and easy access to USDA, Texas Parks & Wildlife, and winery partners. With an Agriculture and Natural Resource Management program geared for the future and rooted in the past, students learn in small classes grounded in a liberal arts education. Primary responsibilities include teaching courses at all levels of the Agriculture and Natural Resource Management curriculum. The successful candidate is encouraged to establish and maintain a productive scholarship program that provides opportunities for undergraduate student research compatible with resources available at a primarily undergraduate institution. Typical duties for the position include teaching 12 credit hours per semester; service to the university through committee work, serving in positions of leadership, and/or sponsorship of student organizations; establishing relationships with local industry to support Capstone projects; staying active in the pursuit of scholarly activity; and advising students in pursuit of their degrees and future career options. Promotion and student recruitment have already begun! Schreiner has hosted high school FFA competitions, visited regional high schools, and advertised at on-campus recruiting events. Our first class is here and ready to meet its new leader who will teach them to add value to existing agricultural operations or lead new operations. This position will be filled as soon as the successful candidate is available, and no later than May of 2025 (sooner is preferred). We also anticipate a search for a complementary faculty candidate to begin with this position's input.

Qualifications:

An earned doctorate in an Agriculture and/or Natural Resources Management discipline (or a closely related field). Teaching experience and a demonstrated interest in working with diverse groups of students is preferred.
