Assistant Professor of Arabic, University of Connecticut, Storrs campusThe Department of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages (LCL) at the University of Connecticut, Storrs campus, invites applications for a tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor of Arabic. We are seeking a scholar of modern Arabic, who will contribute significantly to building and expanding the current Arabic program. Areas of expertise could include modern Arabic literature, media and film studies, cultural production, digital humanities, race, gender, and minority cultures in the MENA region. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong research agenda, who can demonstrate excellence in teaching, and program building - or potential to contribute to such efforts. The candidate is expected to work closely with other units within the LCL department, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and other units across campus.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSA track record of program building, innovation, and community outreach.Demonstrated ability to teach both modern and classical Arabic literature (in Arabic) in advanced undergraduate classes and graduate seminars.Demonstrated ability to teach a large range of classes related to Arabic cultural production, media, and film studies.Demonstrated ability to teach introductory courses on Islam and Islamicate cultures broadly construed.APPOINTMENT TERMSThis is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of Fall 2024. The successful candidate's academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus.
