Job Description: The Department of Art and Art History at Trinity University invites applications fora full-time, tenure track position in Art History at the rank of assistant professor focusing on Latin American and/or Indigenous American art and architecture, to begin in August 2025. We encourage applications from candidates specializing in any region of Central and South America or the Caribbean, in any period from the sixteenth century onwards. The department seeks candidates who are engaged in innovative scholarship in the history of the visual arts or the built environment, including those whose research focuses on global exchanges, cultural encounters, technical or formal innovations, issues of social and artistic production, or legacies of colonialism and imperialism. Candidates must demonstrate a strong research profile and a firm commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a vigorous program of scholarship and to teach introductory lower-division courses while developing upper-division courses in their area of specialization. All faculty are expected to contribute to Pathways, the University's interdisciplinary general education program.
BACKGROUNDFounded in 1869, Trinity is a selective, nationally ranked liberal arts university situated in San Antonio, Texas. Comprising five art historians and five studio artists, the Department of Art and Art History offers majors and minors in Art History and Studio Art, and a minor in Architectural Studies. The department also contributes to Trinity's interdisciplinary major and minor programs, including Global Latinx Studies, Urban Studies, Women and Gender Studies, and Museum Studies. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTeaching: Teach both lower and upper-level courses in one's areas of interest and expertise that complement departmental offerings and contribute to the Pathways general education curriculum, including the First Year Experience, under a (typically) 3-2 teaching load. Advise majors/minors. Research: Establish a consistent and productive program of scholarship, to include publication of research, presentations of papers at academic conferences, attendance at professional meetings, and participation in professional organizations. Service: Provide appropriate service to the department, the university, and the profession.
QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATIONRequired: Doctorate in Art History (by 31 January 2025) or related discipline required.
