The Department of Agricultural Economics at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a 70% Extension, 30% research faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position carries the expectation of excellence in Extension and research commensurate with the land grant mission of Oklahoma State University.

Position Description

The successful candidate is expected to (a) develop Extension programming that supports crop producers and industry organizations with programs including economics of crop production, marketing education, market situation and outlook, and risk management; (b) collaborate with Extension educators, policymakers and industry to develop analysis of crop-related issues and policies and implement producer education programs; (c) develop a collaborative applied or basic research program that supports crop marketing, risk management, crop policy or related crop topics with peer-reviewed publications; (d) provide curricula, training and support for area and county Extension educators; and (e) demonstrate ability to secure extramural funding that supports their extension and research programs.

The successful candidate will have opportunities to (a) serve industry organizations in Oklahoma and beyond; (b) work with industry partners to strengthen campus relationships (c) contribute to other Departmental needs; (d) represent the Department at state, regional, and national meetings, and conferences. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with Extension and research faculty in the Department and the University.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics or other closely related field. Applicants must be committed to Extension programming. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in agricultural marketing with an emphasis on crop marketing, as well as documented experience in scholarly activities in research. Preference will be given to individuals with previous Extension/outreach activities, strong oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills with diverse audiences, prior research output, and a record of successful collaboration in an academic environment.

Employment Conditions

This position is to be filled by August 2025, or as soon as a suitable candidate is identified. The position is an 11-month, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive and based on qualifications and experience. Retirement and long-term disability, medical, dental and life insurance programs are available to employees. Continuation of this position is subject to performance, needs and available funding.

The Department of Agricultural Economics has over 600 undergraduate students, 50 M.S. and Ph.D. students, and 25 faculty. About the Oklahoma Crop Industry

Winter wheat is the leading crop in Oklahoma. The state ranks third in the U.S. in wheat production. Cotton is the number two crop in the state, which ranks twelfth in cotton production. Corn and soybeans are the third and fourth ranked crops in the state followed by grain sorghum and peanuts.
