You will join the supportive and collaborative Department of Physics and Astronomy, where diverse areas of specialization converge with a shared passion for physics, astronomy, and engineering. The Physics and Astronomy Department is well-poised for advanced experimental physics with an impressive ensemble of research grade instrumentation and analytical tools (e.g. AFM, sputtering deposition system, CO2 laser, etc.), state-of-the-art electronics lab and extensive astronomy infrastructure (including New York State's largest optical telescope). You will have the opportunity to shape experimental curriculum and research activities that prepare undergraduates for graduate school and growing regional industries (semiconductors, optics, energy storage, etc.) while complementing work on department initiatives in astronomy, sustainable energy, and electronics.

On any given day, the Experimental/Applied Physics professor will spend time:
* Teaching and developing intermediate and advanced lab courses and upper-level courses related to their specialization.
* Teaching general physics and other courses to meet department needs.
* Developing and maintaining an active research program and involving undergraduate students in research.
* Advising and mentoring students.
* Maintaining and further developing the instructional and research lab spaces.
* Actively participating in departmental and university life.
* Participating in the Physics and Astronomy Department's long tradition of public outreach in STEM.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
* PhD in Experimental or Applied Physics (or closely related discipline). ABD considered; official confirmation of degree conferral by issuing institution by start of employment.
* Evidence of the potential to teach upper-level laboratory courses.
* Ability to initiate a suitable and productive research program involving undergraduates.
Preferred:
* Demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness at the university level.
* Demonstrated capability for teaching upper-level courses in Optics and/or Solid-State Physics.
* Experience in applied physics with an interest and ability in contributing to departmental efforts related to sustainable energy programs and research.
* Experience working with diverse populations and/or teaching pedagogies and/ or multicultural teaching experience.
* Demonstrated interest in developing or participating in public outreach activities in STEM.
