- Prepare course syllabi, develop courses online in Brightspace, and create assessments of learning.
- Offer courses in a variety of different modalities including in person, live online/distance synchronous, as well as asynchronous.
- Support students in their learning and connect them to UMA resources as needed.
- Advise students in the major.
- Teach four classes each semester (fall & spring/total 24 credits), with opportunities to teach additional classes in the summer.
- Participate in program meetings, UMA committees, community service and collaborate with peers across the University of Maine System (UMS).
UMA faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs, committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning, committed to effective use of technology including distance learning, involved in scholarly activities as appropriate to the appointment, and to provide service to the community, college, and university.UMA serves a mix of traditional and non-traditional students and offers a wide array of liberal arts and professional programs leading to certificates, associate, baccalaureate, and master's degrees. Programs are delivered on campus and using a network of University centers and sites across the state and internationally. The University offers general education and degree-specific courses using in-person, hyflex, distance synchronous, and online instruction. The successful candidate will be active in university service through student advising, curriculum development, committee activity, and community outreach.We are looking for two Mental Health and Human Services faculty. We are looking to hire one in each of these specialties; assessment and treatment of substance use disorders and generalist human services curriculum.Generalist human services specialtyFor this position, we are looking for someone to teach in our generalist human services curriculum. Some of the possible undergraduate courses include: Community Mental Health, Human Services Interviewing and Counseling, Crisis Intervention, Professional Ethics, Cultural Competency, and internship courses. Having a professional license to practice as a human services professional is preferred.Substance use specialty For this position, we are looking for someone who has extensive knowledge and experience in the assessment and treatment of substance use disorders. We offer both undergraduate and graduate level courses focused on substance use disorder assessment, counseling and interventions. Some of the possible courses include: Substance Use Disorders and Diverse Populations, Substance Use Disorder Counseling, and Substance Use Disorders and Adolescents. Having a professional license to practice as a substance use disorder professional is preferred.Qualifications for bothRequired:
- Doctoral degree in Social Work, Counselor Education, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Behavioral Health, Mental Health, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Human Services, or similar areas including substance use disorder treatment. ABDs welcome to apply but faculty must have earned their doctorate to be eligible for tenure
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong computer skills and experience using a learning management system (Brightspace, Canvas, Blackboard)
Preferred:
- In possession of a professional license or certification in your profession
- Prior experience teaching in a higher education setting, including in an online setting
