Summary: The Department of Movement Science, in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, at Grand Valley State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Sport Management with expertise in the business content of sport to begin August 6, 2025. The Sport Management Program is an undergraduate BS degree granting program located in a metropolitan area with existing partnerships with four minor league teams, a robust sports commission, local public and private sport facilities, dozens of high schools, and Grand Valley State University has one of the best NCAA athletic programs in the country winning 25 consecutive Presidents' Cup trophies, an annual conference award recognizing general excellence in all sports.Required Qualifications and Education:

• Doctorate in Sport Management or closely related field. ABD will be considered with Ph.D. completed by December 2026
• Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and cultural humility
• Evidence of expertise in the business content of sport
• Experience working within the sport industry

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

• Evidence of collaborations with sport organizations at the local, state, national and/or international levels.
• Membership in or understanding of the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) and other professional associations related to the sport industry.
• Understanding of the COSMA Standards for Sport Management programs at the undergraduate level.
• Clear scholarly agenda suitable to a student- centered university.
• Evidence of engagement with students, demonstrated ability to foster relationships and develop community partnerships.

Responsibilities - Essential Functions:

• Teach a 9 credit load each semester.
• Will teach a combination of courses appropriate to the program's needs, as well as the candidate's expertise and experience.
• Courses may include: New Media Technology in Sport, Revenue Generation in Sport, Sport Governance and Law, Sport Promotions, Sport Analytics, and Digital Literacy in the Sport Industry.
• Provide academic advising and mentoring to student majors.
• Provide service related to the successful candidate's interests and department needs.
• Conduct scholarly work involving undergraduate students.
