Location : Carbondale, IllinoisJob Type: FacultyJob Number: 202400674Department: School of Media Arts-SIUCOpening Date: 10/28/2024Closing Date: 11/28/2024 11:59 PM CentralFLSA:: Non-ExemptSecurity/Safety Sensitive:: NADescription The School of Media Arts in the College of Arts and Media at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking an outstanding teacher and creative practitioner to join our multidisciplinary faculty, as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Animation and Game Development. The successful applicant will be able to teach introductory, intermediate, and advanced level courses in animation and game development. Preferred areas of expertise include: 2D and 3D animation, motion graphics, visual effects, experimental animation, storyboarding, concept art, and drawing. The new hire will be expected to contribute to a multidisciplinary media arts curriculum. Examples of Duties Principal responsibilities include teaching, supporting student projects, and participating in service to departmental, college and university-wide committees in addition to serving on graduate committees. The successful candidate is expected to continue an active creative-research agenda and will have the opportunity to develop new courses and curricula at the undergraduate level for the growing Animation and Game Development areas of study in our Major and at the graduate level. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: MFA or PhD required at the time of the appointment, with a proven record of exhibition/creative research in animation and game development. Preferred Qualifications: Expertise preferred in contemporary animation and game development principles and practices. Preference will be given to applicants who are exploring one or more of the following in their research-creative practice: game design and development, game engines (Godot, Unity3D, Unreal, etc.), programming (GDScript, C#, C++, etc.), procedural animation, installation, physical computing, performance, virtual reality, augmented reality, and other emerging applications and technologies. The ability to teach Animation and/or Game History and Theory courses is also desired.
