Position Summary

The University of Alabama, Department of Geography and the Environment seeks a new colleague with research expertise in Health Geography or Public Health. The position will begin August 16, 2024 at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track. For this position we seek candidates with research expertise in computational methods, techniques and modeling, GIS, and geovisualization of health disparities in the United States-especially disparities in healthcare accessibility examined though transportation and/or spatial network optimization modeling.

Detailed Position Information

The University of Alabama, Department of Geography and the Environment seeks a new colleague with research expertise in Health Geography or Public Health. The position will begin August 16, 2024 at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track. For this position we seek candidates with research expertise in computational methods, techniques and modeling, GIS, and geovisualization of health disparities in the United States-especially disparities in healthcare accessibility examined though transportation and/or spatial network optimization modeling.

This search is part of an effort to grow our department in support of our Ph.D. program in Geography (launched in fall 2017) and elevate the University of Alabama's visibility and impact. The ideal candidate's professional accomplishments include strong potential for sustained success securing external funding, achieving a nationally/internationally recognized profile, and recruiting and mentoring graduate students. We seek scholars who can advance the mission of the newly formed Alabama Water Institute with research aligned with the strategic vision of NOAA's National Water Center, located on the UA campus. Candidates with research interests that also complement the University's designation as a National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Center of Academic Excellence in Geospatial Sciences and one or more of the department's broader research foci, including water resources, human-environment systems, environmental management and change, and human impacts on the environment (see are particularly encouraged to apply.
