Duties Description The Research Scientist (RS) will participate in all phases of injury and occupational epidemiological research and surveillance. The incumbent will work both independently and under the technical direction of higher-level research scientists to better assist in research studies that contribute directly towards problem definition, study design, execution, analyses, and interpretation and presentation of results.They will assist with the identification of risk factors and outcomes; monitor and evaluate the effects of risk exposure at home, at work, and within the community; evaluate exposure investigation and surveillance to better identify and reduce health risks. Minimum Qualifications Assistant Research Scientist, Grade 14: a bachelor's degree in biology, public health, epidemiology, infection control, statistics/biostatistics, biomedical science, environmental health, environmental science, or a related degree* AND at least one year of post degree professional research experience in the appropriate field. Thirty graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.Research Scientist 1, Grade 18: a bachelor's degree in biology, public health, epidemiology, infection control, statistics/biostatistics, biomedical science, environmental health, environmental science, or a related degree*, AND at least two years of relevant post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field; OR a Master's degree in one of the above fields, AND at least one year of post-degree professional research experience.Research Scientist 2, Grade 22: a bachelor's degree in biology, public health, epidemiology, infection control, statistics/biostatistics, biomedical science, environmental health, environmental science, or a related degree*, AND at least three years of relevant post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field; OR a Master's degree in one of the above fields, AND at least 2 years of post-degree professional research experience; OR a doctoral degree in one of the above fields.*Related Degrees may include: Medical Anthropology, Psychology, Nutrition, Nursing, Pharmacology, Mathematics, Education, Medical Geography, Sociology, Economics, or other relevant Social Science, or Natural Sciences. Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will possess a master's degree in biology, public health, epidemiology, infection control, statistics/biostatistics, biomedical science, environmental health, environmental science, or a closely related health science degree. They will have experience in scientific research, public health surveillance or evaluation. The preferred candidate will have intermediate or advanced proficiency in SAS, BASE, SQL, R, Tableau, or Geographical Information System (GIS) software. They will also have extensive experience in the collection, management, linkage, and analysis of injury and occupational data; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong attention to detail; and experience working with databases and large datasets.Additional Comments One full-time, contingent-permanent, non-competitive appointment opportunity.
