The Assistant Residential Coordinator is an integral member of the InclusiveU team who provides support for InclusiveU students with disabilities who live in residence halls at Syracuse University. This position plays a central role in promoting an optimal inclusive college experience for students by assisting them with maintaining a healthy living environment, participating in campus life, and problem-solving skills. The Assistant Residential Coordinator will also assist in the oversight of student Residential Mentors (RM) and support the academic needs of InclusiveU students as they arise.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Education and Experience
* Bachelors degree, or a combination of education and work experience required.
Skills and Knowledge
* Experience working with individuals with intellectual disability.
Responsibilities
* Managing and creating student and Residential Mentor schedules, coordinating, and creating various supports to accommodate students' needs.
* Work with InclusiveU staff, academic advisors, mentors, and university staff to create and update student schedules.
* Oversee Residential Mentor on-call rotation to ensure coverage and completion of daily notes.
* Participate in the administrative on-call rotation.
* Attend weekly Residential Mentor meetings.
* Assist and support Residential Mentors in creating Student Support Plans and oversee their implementation.
* Support and problem solve student issues as they arise, with the Residential Mentor team.
* Assist students in learning new skills and responsibilities (i.e. budgeting, time management, laundry, cleaning, etc.) via timely prompting to foster interdependent living goals.
* Teach and model appropriate skills in living and relationships.
* Facilitate an inclusive living environment for students in residence halls.
* Provide support for students' mental and physical health by accompanying them to appointments if necessary.
* Collaborate with the Taishoff Center staff to assess needs, problem-solve situations that may arise, and assist in building and implementing structures that promote efficient practices.
* Advocate for students as needed throughout the campus community.
* Outreach to various staff and programs to advocate for our students and their opportunities.
* Identify and nurture natural supports to facilitate success
