This is a newly created position that will be responsible for providing assistance with planning, implementation and supervision of the day-to-day functions of the Verona Senior Center programs, classes and activities.The City of Verona is a great place to work! Job Duties and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist Director with creating a long-term vision for Senior Center programs and services.
  • Ensure a welcoming atmosphere by providing excellent customer service, building and nurturing relationships, and working courteously with all internal and external customers.
  • Work with Senior Center members on questions and inquiries, provide information, resolve member questions and complaints to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Direct the day-to-day operations of the Senior Center facility including but not limited to programs and activities, volunteer management, marketing, and guest relations.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of the Program Manager, Program Assistant and Administrative Assistant; plan, organize, assign, direct, review and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
  • Recommend and assist with the development and maintenance of operational policies and procedures. Provide recommendations and continuous feedback on process improvement.
  • Assist with the maintenance of operational and administrative recordkeeping within Schedules Plus (SP) Membership Software.
  • Assist Senior Center staff with membership data collection.
  • Enter and maintain accurate member information and attendance records.
  • Track and document daily revenue.
  • Document and report use of rental space in Schedules Plus.
  • Oversee the continued development and implementation of the Volunteer Services Program.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers and interested community groups.
  • Recruit, interview, register, train, and schedule volunteers.
  • Plan and execute (with assistance) the annual volunteer appreciation event.
  • Maintain positive relationships with external volunteer organizations (e.g. RSVP).
  • Update Volunteer Handbook as needed.
  • Oversee, promote, and assist with a variety of recreation and wellness programs to adequately meet the needs of Senior Center participants.
  • Work with Director on sponsorships and grant opportunities.
  • Manage the Senior Center in the absence of the Director.
  • Provide general support services for the operation of the Verona Senior Center as needed including greeting guests, answering phones, and assisting with Senior Center activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The Assistant Senior Center Director must have the following:
  • Knowledge of normal aging and an understanding of potential challenges and difficulties associated with aging.
  • Skill in basic accounting, office procedures, financial reports, mailings, correspondence, memberships, and other administrative responsibilities.
  • Ability to establish, promote, and maintain public awareness of Senior Center programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of leadership and supervisory methods, including the ability to train and motivate individuals.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Conflict resolution skills and abilities.
  • Effective critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgement within internal policy guidelines.
Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Required Education and Experience
  • Associate Degree in Business, Human Services, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience with older adults is required.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Services or a related field is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Experience in program management is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
Additional Information WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in general office conditions. The work environment often includes multiple activities occurring simultaneously while dealing with some individuals with limited comprehension, attention, vision and hearing.
