OverviewThis is an exempt, part-time position and must adhere to the regulations stipulated in the Mount Marty University Staff Handbook. The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coaches with practice preparation, scouting, recruiting, scheduling of games, and other various athletic activities.
Duties and Responsibilities - Review of the program and student-athlete achievement for improvement of coaching methods and procedures
- Complete the NAIA Coaching with Character exercise, and be sure all assistants have also completed the program on a yearly basis.
- Sustain a roster of high quality and competency
- Maintenance of official athletic documentation
- Represent the university at appropriate community and sporting events
- Assignments issued by the head coach which may include but are not limited to
- Sport specific coaching at team, positional, and individual levels
- Recruiting student-athletes
- Scouting games
- Practice preparation
- Transportation arrangements
- Updating statistics
- Helping with the scheduling of games and practices
- Potential driving of athletes/team to functions or competitions
- Be supportive of the head coach at all times in dealing with the students and the public.
- Assist the Head Coach in developing and implementing clinic(s), summer camp(s), and on-campus tryouts
- Inform head coach of any student related problems
- Treat all salary, budget, and grant information as highly confidential
- Assist students with the integration of the academic, spiritual, and social dimensions of the university
- Assist the coach in developing and maintaining a harmonious attitude
- Build and maintain rapport with students, faculty, and staff
- Maintain good relations with the public at all times
- Maintain a player-coach relationship with the students
- Maintain, and report problems to the head coach, any problems with facilities, equipment, or transportation
- Provide information to business office to permit driving of school vehicles and adequate liability coverage
- Provide adequate supervision for athletes
- Assume other related responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach and Athletic Director.
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree
- Experience in coaching
