Reporting to the Head softball coach, and the Director of Athletics, the selected candidate will be responsible working with the Head Coach of the women's softball program, ensuring compliance with athletic department, college, and Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) guidelines. The assistant coach holds a significant role in developing the pitching staff, ensuring their growth and success both on and off the field. This is a part-time, non-tenure position without benefits eligibility. This position is paid through an annual stipend. Grays Harbor College serves the communities of Grays Harbor and Pacific counties on the Pacific coast of Washington. Located in Aberdeen, Washington at the base of the beautiful Olympic Peninsula, the College is less than an hour away from scenic Pacific Ocean beaches and close to both the Olympic and Mount Rainier National Parks. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized coaching to softball pitchers on mechanics, grips, and pitches.
  • Develop and implement practice plans focused on pitching techniques and strategies.
  • Analyze game performance and provide feedback to pitchers for improvement.
  • Conduct drills and exercises to improve pitchers' velocity, accuracy, and stamina.
  • Work on developing new pitches and refining existing ones.
  • Assist in planning pitching rotations and strategies for games.
  • Provide in-game coaching and support to pitchers.
  • Monitor pitchers' physical and mental readiness during games.
  • Identify and evaluate potential pitching recruits.
  • Attend recruiting events, showcases, and tournaments to scout prospects.
  • Assist in building relationships with recruits and their families.
  • Use video technology to analyze pitchers' mechanics and performance.
  • Provide feedback based on video analysis to help pitchers refine their skills.
  • Assist with scheduling of pitching practices and individual sessions.
  • Help manage pitching equipment and inventory.
  • Ensure compliance with GHC and NWAC rules regarding recruiting and practice.
  • Communicate effectively with pitchers, coaching staff, and support personnel.
  • Foster a positive and supportive environment for pitchers' growth and development.
  • Mentor pitchers academically, athletically, and personally.
  • Complete required paperwork and reports accurately and on time.
  • Participate in outreach activities such as pitching clinics and camps.
  • Represent the program positively at community events and fundraisers.
  • Assist with fundraising efforts for the softball and athletics program.
  • Handle additional administrative tasks as needed for the team's success.

  • Demonstrated experience as a softball coach and/or player
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification and/or will obtain as per condition of employment
  • Knowledgeable of NWAC code and regulations and/or willingness to become knowledgeable
  • Valid unrestricted Washington Driver's License
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Time management skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1-2 years assistant coaching in a college level program
