Job Title: Assistant Sports DietitianJob Summary: The Kansas City Royals Assistant Sports Dietitian will act as a valuable member of the sports nutrition team, supporting the performance efforts of minor league players. Acting as an onsite presence for nutrition initiatives throughout the year (pre-season, in-season, and off-season), the Assistant Sports Dietitian provides players with effective nutrition strategies to enhance baseball performance. This role will also assist the Director of Sports Nutrition and Minor League Nutrition Coordinator in building and executing nutrition protocols for rehab players. This position will be in Surprise, AZ.Position Accountabilities/Responsibilities:Nutrition Education
- Provide performance nutrition education through created documents, presentations, digital communication, and other various teaching methods.
- Initiate informal nutrition education touchpoints such as plate coaching, supplement education, and hydration strategies.
- Collaborate with the Director of Sports Nutrition and Minor League Nutrition Coordinator in the development of education and growth for the Kansas City Royals Performance Nutrition system.
Applied Performance Nutrition
- Implementation of the Kansas City Royals Nutrition System.
- Assess dietary habits and analyze energy balance among players to maintain and enhance athletic performance
- Collaborate with nutrition leadership and strength and conditioning departments to understand and align with body weight and body composition goals.
- Implement body weight/body composition-focused nutrition goals to improve outcomes
- Collaborate on fatigue management and performance outcomes with other departments.
- Conduct nutrition consultations to provide individualized nutrition strategies for players based on needs and/or goals.
Clinical Sports Nutrition
- Maintain effective communication regarding athlete nutrition with the Nutrition department, strength and conditioning, and medical departments.
- Stay up to date on scientific research and trends about sports and medical nutrition.
- Work with the nutrition leadership and medical team to provide medical nutrition therapy to help manage and monitor medical conditions as well illness & injury recovery.
- Integrate nutrition protocols and education with injured players and the injury rehabilitation staff.
Food Service & Supplement Management
- Assist with inventory management and daily stocking of snacks, supplements, and other nutrition integrations at our facility and housing complex.
- Assist with NSF Certified for Sports supplement inventory and distribution.
- Monitor the use of supplements by each player, promoting the NSF Certified for Sport program.
- Coordinate menus to meet the Royals Fueling Philosophy with caterers and/or chefs.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Nutrition or Minor League Nutrition Coordinator.
Position Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in nutrition or dietetics.
- Registered Dietitian (RD) credential or on track to acquire credential.
- Master's degree in nutrition, food science, or exercise physiology, preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience within a professional, private, or collegiate program
- Knowledge of food service operations, quality control, and safety practices.
- Knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy, food service management, ergogenic aids, and supplementation.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and counseling skills.
- Computing - proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat
- Excellent time management, organizational, and record keeping abilities.
- Self-motivator, ability to work independently as well as within a group.

- Ability to work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift items weighing as much as 50 pounds
- Must be able to work in a standing position for majority of workday
- Must be able to be productive utilizing a computer keyboard and telephone
- Must be able to be productive in a work environment where the noise level can be high at times
- Must be comfortable walking to navigate the facility to access the office, concourse, etc.
- Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as required by deadlines and event scheduling
