Job SummaryPreschool Assistant Teacher assists with the development and implementation of a learning curriculum in accordance withChild Care Center philosophies and policies, incorporating various teaching styles and methods to ensure physical,emotional, social and mental developmentof each individual child.ResponsibilitiesTeaching and NurturingApplies principles of growth and development of all age groups according to the department/unit'spolicies and procedures in the performance of his/her job duties. Assists with implementation of various ageappropriate schedules and activities for all assignedchildren. Meets new students and assists Teacher regarding assessment of learning, needs, languagedevelopment, etc. Understands the importance of developing routines and ensures adherence to routines. Assists the Teacher with parent/teacher conferences twice per year and as needed. Advises and counsels parents concerning parenting techniques as needed, under the guidance of the Teacher. Participates in lunchtime activities and serves as a role model to students. Maintains daily attendance log as needed. Administers medications per parents' instructions and signed orders on an as-needed basis. Ensuressafe and proper medication storage. Follows medication protocol, policies and procedures. Provides ideas and input into lesson plans and/or daily activities that are developmentally appropriateand which stimulate creativity in children, maintain attention/self expression, and foster self confidence. Assists Teacher and/or Implements lesson plans to ensure quality of care and teaching delivery. Effectively manages individuals in the classroom. Responds appropriately to inappropriate behavior.Uses appropriate techniques in dealing with behavioral problems. If sudden behavioral issues (out of thenormal) occur, Teacher Assistant notices and notifies Teacher and/or Director. Demonstrates ability to pick up on subtle behavioral cues and responds appropriately. Steps in and provides coverage when Teacher is absent. Effectively communicates with Teacher regarding daily routines.Other Teacher Assistant ResponsibilitiesReceives constructive criticism and guidance from Teacher; listens and takes action to improve. Maintains a clean and safe environment. Ensures classroom is reflective of children's interests and work. Prepares activities for the day as requested by Teacher. Ensures classroom supplies for learningactivities are prepared/purchased beforehand. Attends meetings for determining Individual Education Plans and Individual Family Service Plans, asneeded. Participates in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops in order to develop and increase own body ofknowledge. Assists Director with policies, procedures and protocol development when needed. Notifies Director when supplies are low.Abuse and Neglect ReportingIdentifies appropriate cases of abuse and neglect and demonstrates knowledge of mandatoryreporting requirements. Satisfactorily completes mandatory in-service training within established timeframe.Performs Other Duties as RequiredAttends mandatory in-services, staff meetings, and actively participates in self-education. Completes all required competency assessments on time. Maintains required job knowledge (e.g. licensure and credentials, continuing education etc.).
