Jabil is adding an Assistant Test Engineering Manager to our team in Northern Kentucky who will directly contribute to the transformative growth within our Advanced Compute division by applying unique and innovative approaches to developing end-customer product solutions. Reporting to the Senior Test Engineering Manager, the Assistant Test Engineering Manager will champion innovative solutions to improve product quality and efficiency while overseeing all aspects of Test Engineering. This position will play a pivotal role in scaling operations, developing and maintaining test systems, and driving technical excellence in support of new and sustaining AI/ML and GPGPU and hardware accelerator-based server, networking, and storage platforms.

JOB SUMMARY

Provide optimum test solutions and strategies through the effective management of people, systems, procedures and equipment. Drive innovation and continuous improvement within Test Engineering by harnessing new technologies in the areas of systems, equipment, and processes. Provide exceptional support to customers, team members, and shareholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

Recruitment and Retention:

* Recruit, interview and hire Test Engineers and Technicians.

* Communicate criteria to recruiters for Test Engineer and Test Technician position candidates.

* Coach Test Engineers/Technicians in the interviewing/hiring process.

* Monitor team member turnover; identify key factors that can be improved; make improvements.

Employee and Team Development:

* Identify individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis.

* Create and/or validate training curriculum in area of responsibility.

* Coach and mentor Test Engineering staff to deliver excellence to every internal and external customer.

* Create and manage succession plans for Test Engineering functions.

Performance Management:

* Establish clear measurable goals and objectives by which to determine individual and team results (i.e. operational metrics, results against project timelines, training documentation, attendance records, knowledge of operational roles and responsibilities, personal development goals).

* Solicit ongoing feedback from Work Cell Manager (WCM), Business Unit Manager (BUM), peers and team member on team member's contribution to the Work Cell team. Provide ongoing coaching and counseling to team member based on feedback.

* Express pride in staff and encourage them to feel good about their accomplishments.

* Perform team member evaluations professionally and on time.

* Drive individuals and the team to continuously improve in key operational metrics and the achievement of the organizational goals.

* Coordinate activities of large teams and keep them focused in times of crises.

* Ensure recognition and rewards are managed fairly and consistently in area of responsibility.

Communication:

* Provide communication forum for the exchange of ideas and information with the department.

* Organize verbal and written ideas clearly and use an appropriate business style.

* Ask questions; encourage input from team members.

* Assess communication style of individual team members and adapt own communication style accordingly.

FUNCTIONAL MANAGEMENT

Business Strategy and Direction:

* Know and understand the campus strategic directions.

* Define, develop and implement Test Engineering strategies which contribute to the campus strategic directions.

* Develop an understanding of the Work Cell business strategy as it pertains to Test Engineering.

* Provide regular updates to BUM, WCM, and Operations Manager on the execution of the strategy.

Cost Management:

* Identify creative ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes and systems (i.e. modification of responsibilities or consolidation of tasks, elimination of non-value-added processes, or complete re-engineering of processes and systems).

* Utilize tools to monitor departmental cost and cost trends, striving continuously to improve value.

* Provide feedback to peers (BUMs, WCMs, Functional Managers (FMs) on cost and cost trends.

Forecast Development and Accuracy:

* Prepare timely forecasts for the department.

* Compare forward forecast results to historical actual results for trend assessment and analysis.

TECHNICAL MANAGEMENT

* Drive continuous improvement through trend reporting analysis and metrics management.

* Assess the adequacy of data gathering methods utilized by the Work Cells.

* Assure that procedures and work instructions are efficient and not redundant.

* Offer new ideas and suggestions for improvement. Identify and implement new practices and processes that are best in field.

* Demonstrate a commitment to customer service; anticipate, meet, and exceed expectations by solving problems quickly and effectively; making customer issues a priority.

* Lead by example; walk the talk.

* Periodically get down in the trenches to rehabilitate troubled Work Cells or to help during product launch. Foster a back to basics mentality during these times.

* Establish new measurement systems if/where possible.

* Exchange knowledge and information with other Jabil facilities to ensure best practices are shared throughout the Jabil organization.

* Ensure 100% adherence to all company policies and procedures (i.e. Health and Safety, Quality).

* Ensure all sensitive and confidential information is handled appropriately.

* Evaluate customer test strategies and recommend appropriate test solutions to support customer requests.

* Drive the development of specialized test equipment and software.

* Manage the procurement of test equipment.

* Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position and as directed by supervisor.

* Comply and follow all procedures within the company security policy.

* May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

* Ability to read, analyze, interpret and communicate regarding common scientific and/or technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

* Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

* Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

* Advanced PC skills, including training and knowledge of Jabil's software packages.

* Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

* Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

* Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

* Strong knowledge of global and regional logistics operations and industry.

* Strong proficiency in determining logistics requirements to enable company's business goals and objectives with ability to devise and implement strategy to achieve targets.

* Strong financial and analytical ability. Proficiency in managing business analytics to determine optimum company footprint.

* Strong knowledge of international direct and indirect taxes as well as global customs regimes.

* Proven track record of successful change management accomplishments, implementing and management continuous productivity and cost reduction programs.

* Strong and convincing communication skills.

* Proficiency in use of personal computers, Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and e-mail skills required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred, from an accredited four-year college or university.

* Two (2) years of management experience and five (5) total years of industry related experience in the manufacturing sector, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training.

* Experience in a hardware testing and development environment, preferably with enterprise server, storage or networking products.

* Expertise with Linux and Linux Shell; capable of training technicians on Linux / Linux Shell basics.

* Demonstrate the ability to apply principles of statistical analysis: collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to make data-driven decisions.

* Intermediate understanding of Bash and Python programming.

* Display strong understanding of computer/server hardware concepts, functionality, and integration.

* Experience working in a multi-site and multi-cultural environments.

* Proven ability to work within a fast-paced and highly ambiguous business environment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to walk, and to lift and carry PC's and test equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and use of computer monitor screens a great deal of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Individual's primary workstation is located in the office area, with some time spent each day on the manufacturing floor. The noise level in this environment ranges from low to moderate. Required PPE for the production area includes composite toed shoes, hearing protection, protective eyewear, and an ESD vest. The manufacturing floor is modernized, climate-controlled, and well-lit.
