UT Health San Antonio is building toward comprehensiveinformatics support for clinical studies. There is a growing need for data collection from devices in clinicalresearch including wearable, implantable and home monitoring devices, as wellas data collection from mobile computers such as tablets and smart phones. Theincumbent's primary focus will be supporting clinical investigators andresearch teams through the design, development, validation, implementation andevaluation of device-based data collection in clinical studies.Responsibilities will include device-based data acquisition, integration andmanagement in clinical studies. In keeping with our intent for the FacultySpecialist role, the incumbent will pursue applied and basic research questionsand opportunities that arise from operations.We seek a senior informaticist with broad clinical researchinformatics experience and a deep specialization in data collection from mobiledevices. The device-based data acquisition and integration we seek to supportoccurs in the context of clinical research and requires more advanced skillsthan those possessed by typical research data managers. As such, the incumbent mustalso have a significant track-record in clinical research data management andmay be called upon to oversee Data Management operations on large or complexstudies. As a Faculty Specialist, the incumbent should have a track-recordsupportive of their filling the project Director or co-investigator leadershiproles in clinical studies and projects with complex data acquisition andintegration.Job expectations for a device/mobile health informaticsFaculty Specialist:•*Serve as the institutional point of contact forinvestigators needing device-base data acquisition on clinical studies•*Draft software requirements for selection ordevelopment of devices for studies.•*Manage software development, usability testing,implementation and evaluation of Health applications for clinical studies•*Work with the Epic team for those few casesneeding integration in local care settings.•*Maintain a working knowledge of the Health LevelSeven (HL7) Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) family ofstandards including actively participating in HL7 to influence or lead thedevelopment of research-relevant standards and stay abreast of standards implementationissues.•*Advise investigators, study teams and researchinfrastructure teams on research data standards selection and implementation•*Personally support and potentially serve asProgram Director or co-Investigator on NIH grants, contract and otherinformatics projects involving complex device, data integration or standardsimplementation such as direct acquisition from EHR's, use of HL7 FHIR standardsand studies with multiple and novel data sources.•*Manage implementation of real-time HL7FHIR-based data acquisition for the institutional data warehouse from partnerssuch as the University Health System and HASA, the regional Health InformationExchange.•*Manage the Clinical Research InformaticsSpecialist group including hiring, training, assigning and overseeing the workof Clinical Research Informatics Specialists and the Research Data Navigatorrole (helping investigators identify the best methods for data collection andprocessing for studies).The Associate Director of Clinical Research Informatics,Mobile Health will report to the Division Chief of the Clinical InformaticsResearch Division in the Department of Population Sciences within the Joe R.& Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio.UT Health San Antoniois an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer includingprotected veterans and persons with disabilities.
