Job Description:
The Associate Administrative Assistant serves as administrative and secretarial support for the Department of Comparative Medicine. Tasks may include greeting guests, answering, directing phone calls, and data entry. Failure to meet established performance standards in the performance of the job duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description (or as otherwise assigned); and/or failure to interact courteously and tactfully with managers, co-workers, customers and/or vendors such that productivity or departmental morale suffers will result in management's taking the appropriate disciplinary action as outlined in the Staff Handbook. Employee attendance must meet established work schedules. Therefore, faithfulness in coming to work, being on time, planning absences in advance when possible, and calling in when unavoidably detained from reporting for work are essential requirements of the job.•Operate a multi-line telephone system, provide accurate information to callers, and appropriately direct phone calls as needed. •Ability to operate electronic office machines (copier, fax, scanners, etc.) •Proficient keyboarding speed and accuracy skills.•Good computer literacy skills, including knowledge of standard Microsoft Office software (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel). •Ability to work with internal and external constituencies. •Strong written and verbal communication skills. •Strong organizational skills. SPECIAL REQUIRED ABILITY FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:Ability to complete and pass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in the University's Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis. REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECK, PHYSICAL, AND DRUG SCREENING FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment. For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.•High School Diploma or equivalent.•Associate or Bachelor's Degree in business administration. •Experience in clerical duties relating to laboratory research.
