About the team The Legal, Risk & Compliance (LRC) team at Airwallex is a collaborative group of legal minds and risk management experts. We're passionate about safeguarding Airwallex's operations, fostering a culture of compliance and ethical conduct, and ensuring we navigate the global financial landscape with integrity. We provide expert guidance and support to all areas of the business, proactively identifying, mitigating, and managing legal and financial risks. What you'll do Joining a high functioning Corporate Legal team, this position will oversee and manage all legal matters related to general corporate work, corporate governance, fundraising, mergers & acquisitions, supporting the group's international expansion, managing the IP portfolio, marketing initiatives, and other legal issues affecting the Americas. You will strategically partner with corporate development, the company secretary and marketing, providing proactive and effective legal support to enable the region to achieve their ambitious business goals. This role is based in San Francisco, New York City or Austin. Responsibilities:
  • Provide practical legal guidance on how to navigate rules and regulations for our entities in the Americas
  • Support the corporate development team in fundraising rounds
  • Support expansion and launches in new markets
  • Work with the compliance and risk teams globally to align on Airwallex's policies
  • Draft & review referral agreements, and marketing materials in collaboration with partnership and marketing teams
  • Provide guidance on legal issues related to marketing, advertising and promotions
Who you are We're looking for people who meet the minimum requirements for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory. Minimum qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in financial services and corporate law preferably at a fast-growing tech startup or top tier law firm
  • Juris Doctor from a reputable law school
  • Member of a US State Bar association in good standing
  • A keen interest in financial services regulation and the fintech industry
  • In-depth knowledge of the legal and business environment in the Americas region
  • Outstanding negotiation, communication, and leadership skills
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated capability in managing and leading outside counsel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Preferred qualifications:
  • Spanish and/or Mandarin fluency
