BASIC FUNCTION: The Associate Dean, for Academic Affairs and Administration is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and administrative oversight for College-wide matters related to academic affairs and administration. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: ensuring compliance with administrative issues related to Academic Affairs; oversight for the management and regular review of the curriculum; service as the Chair of the Curriculum Committee; service as an ex officio member of the Assessment Committee; preparing the annual report for Academic Affairs and Assessment; contributing to the strategic plans for the College and active involvement in maintaining full accreditation of the College; participating as an active member of the College's administrative leadership team; and supervising and evaluating the activities and performance of support staff. The successful candidate will report directly to the Dean of the College and collaborate with all other Associate Deans as well as Directors for Student Affairs, especially in relationship to student academic progress. In addition to the Associate Dean's responsibilities for Academic Affairs and Administration, he/she will provide classroom instruction in the curriculum, conduct scholarly activity, as well as provide limited service to the College/University as expected of a faculty member. This position will also hold a faculty rank as an Associate Professor or Professor in the appropriate department as defined by the background of the selected candidate.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY: Supervises all academic programs and curricular matters as assigned by the Dean for the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences.
NATURE AND SCOPE: Internal contacts include executives, administrators, faculty, students, and staff of the department and the university at large. External contacts include consultants, representatives from other colleges and universities, visitors, and the general public.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: - Participates in the development of academic plans, procedures and practices.
- Continues the development of the University's degree inventory that strengthens all levels of academic programming.
- Administers the academic policies, regulations, practices and procedures of the College.
- Participates in planning for the College budget; working with Chairs and Directors for information that is included in budget planning as well as the expenditure of funds for academic programs.
- Consults with the Dean and directs/supervises preparations of academic reports, including the Faculty Workload report, academic information for the Annual Report, recommendations for or from the Board of Trustees, input on faculty merit increases, and updating the School's By-laws.
- Handles inquiries regarding academic matters for the School, and provides guidance and assistance to Department Chairs in curriculum development and program accreditation.
- Determines policy on curriculum in consultation with the Dean and the respective Curriculum Committee.
- Plans and coordinates faculty assessment and long-range planning in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Research.
- Oversees curriculum and course-related issues.
- Leads and participates in a collaborative administrative team that models institutional values of cooperation, collegiality and cohesion.
- Supporting diverse academic solutions and models across a varied academic environment.
- Assists with writing of all pertinent documents for the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences as delineated by the Dean.
- Participates with the Dean in New Faculty Orientation at the beginning of the semester, including such areas as orientation of new faculty to the
- Faculty Handbook, School's By-Laws and the School's academic policies and procedures.
- Serves as liaison to the Graduate School or other administrative meetings as assigned.
- Consults and builds on Assessment of student learning with the Associate Dean for Research and all other committees.
- Consults on academic dishonesty, grades and other adverse decisions.
- Serves as Acting Dean when the Dean is out of the office for an extended period or as directed by the Dean. The Associate Dean makes decisions that the Dean would make if present. This requires an extensive knowledge of the Dean's philosophy and mode of operation, as well as working knowledge of the various governing policies, regulations and procedures of the office.
- Facilitates special assignments as may be specifically designated by the Dean.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications include an earned doctorate from an accredited institution, advanced degree in a health related discipline and demonstrated work experience in a related area, distinguished record of teaching, research, and service commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, strong leadership skills, established excellence in interpersonal, communication, and administrative skills, and working cooperatively and collaboratively with others; experience with academic affairs and administration areas, strong interest in inter-professional education, ability to effectively articulate the vision and mission of the Office of Academic Affairs and Administration. These qualifications are supplemented by the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with attention to details, deadlines, and making decisions. Additionally, exceptional interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to the principles of higher education are necessary for success.
