Academic affairs duties include oversight of the curriculum, assessment, faculty schedules, student schedules, disciplinary actions, development of policy letters, and faculty and student handbooks. Student affairs duties include oversight of recruitment, admissions, registration, financial aid, recruiting, scholarship and awards, counseling, student records, and student organizations. The Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs assumes the responsibilities and authority of the Dean when the Dean is unavailable. Big Rapids, Michigan is a small, safe, friendly place to call home with a reasonable cost of living. Michigan College of Optometry is headquartered in a beautiful building with state-of-the-art equipment,and serves its student body of 38 students per cohort. The anticipated start date of this position is January 2024. However, this is an estimated date and can be revised if needed.Position Type:StaffRequired Education:A doctor of optometry degree (O.D.) from an ACOE-accredited institution or a clinical equivalent (i.e. MD, DO)Required Work Experience:Demonstrated work experience in a related position, with strong preference given to those with leadership experience. Solid understanding of the profession of optometry and its place in the United States healthcare system. Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse workforce. Must possess comprehensive administrative skills including communication, human resource supervision, and budget management. Demonstrated leadership and involvement in professional organizations.Required Licenses and Certifications:At the time of appointment, the applicant must have or be eligible to obtain a Michigan optometry license with TPA/DPA certification, or the medical license equivalent. This status must be maintained for the duration of employment.Physical Demands:

Directly reports to the Dean Member of the College Executive Committee, Student Administrative Committee and Faculty Administrative Committee. Provide administrative guidance for the following standing faculty committees; Academic Review, and Curriculum Review. Oversee admissions committee process. Update recruitment materials. Responsible for compliance with student privacy under FERPA and oversee proper FERPA guidelines and maintenance of student records. Provide information to the Dean for the creation of Deans List and Academic Honors List. Directly manage co-curricular elements of the program. Certify eligibility requirements are met for students for BS for Vision Science & OD degrees. Serve as the College liaison to: National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO), Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) Chief Academic Officers group, and the Optometry Centralized Application Service (OptomCAS). Evaluate undergraduate transcripts to determine prerequisite course requirements are met for applicants. Serve as point of contact for student counseling for personal/academic needs. Provide tutoring when requested or necessary. Prepare data for assessment purposes based on outcomes/goals for Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and ACOE. Develop the faculty workload and schedules for the academic year. Work with Dean to develop annual reporting and/or newsletter. Coordinate the annual new student orientation program. Work with the Administrative Secretary to the Dean in evaluating staff. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
