Job Description:

The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing seeks qualified applicants for a full-time faculty member as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Development.

The overall function of the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Development is to assist the Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship with all aspects of faculty recruitment, retention, and development activities within the School of Nursing and to provide strategic planning and operational direction for faculty development and sustained success in the School of Nursing.

Faculty members are employees of the University and receive dedicated time and resources to perform scholarly work, travel to present their work at professional conferences, and have opportunities to pursue specialty certification and faculty practice.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead, or at minimum participate in, the activities of the Faculty Search Committee and the Appointment, Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure Committee, as well as other committees as assigned in the School of Nursing (SON) and represent the SON in comparable University level committees
  • Assist with the onboarding and coordination of the mentoring programs for SON faculty
  • Assist with the identification of SON faculty for various awards and opportunities to facilitate career advancement
  • Assist with the development of faculty in the areas of teaching, mentoring, and scholarship (i.e., publications and presentations)
  • Work collaboratively with Department Chairs to address faculty issues and concerns relative to faculty affairs and development
  • Oversee and advise on the interpretation of University Policies and Collective Bargaining Agreements regarding faculty
  • Work with the Associate Dean of Research and Scholarship to provide resources to faculty to support their success in developing, executing, and sustaining a program of research and scholarship

Minimum Qualifications Across All Ranks:

1. Be tenured or tenure-eligible within the School of Nursing

2. Experience with orienting and mentoring tenured, tenure-stream, and appointment-stream faculty in Nursing

3. Proven administrative capabilities in leading and managing various committees and programs

4. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills

Minimum Qualifications by Rank in the Tenure Stream:

Qualifications for these tenure-stream faculty positions include an earned research doctorate (PhD), completion of or currently in postdoctoral training, can demonstrate potential for research productivity, and have a planned program of research that is in alignment with one or more of the research foci within the School of Nursing. The current research foci within the School of Nursing include Digital Health, Genomics, Cancer Survivorship, Aging and Gerontology, Sleep and Circadian Science, Health Services and Policy, Maternal/Perinatal and Reproductive Health, and Nursing Education. Salary and academic rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Associate Professor - A) An earned doctorate in nursing or a field related to the research foci within the School of Nursing is required. B) Evidence of a sustained and impactful program of research that is nationally recognized. C) Evidence of or potential for leadership in the field.

Professor - A) An earned doctorate in nursing or a field related to the research foci within the School of Nursing is required. B) Evidence of a sustained and impactful program of research that is internationally recognized. C) Evidence of leadership in the field.
