POSITION DETAILS

The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SOM) is located at The City College of New York (CCNY) in the heart of Harlem. It is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, we transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine in 2017. The CUNY SOM offers an accelerated BS/MD (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master's Degree (28-month program). True to its legacy of access, opportunity, and community transformation, the medical school's mission remains to recruit highly talented students as diverse as New York City itself. CUNY School of Medicine as the home of healers and leaders, places a special emphasis on addressing educational and healthcare disparities. The school seeks to include those underrepresented in the field of medicine and to train high-quality, culturally competent health professionals and scientists equipped to address the healthcare needs of New York's medically underserved communities. As a major priority, CUNY School of Medicine also seeks to enhance the recruitment and retention of senior leadership, faculty, and staff who closely reflect the diversity of our student body and NYC itself.

The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SOM) is seeking an Associate Dean for Institutional Advancement to help lead the school during a transformational time of dramatic change and dynamic growth. They will pursue external resources to meet the school's quadripartite mission and elevate CUNY Med's profile. This collaborative individual will carry out CUNY Med's and CUNY's strategic priorities. They will serve as the Associate Dean for Institutional Advancement and provide strategic leadership in fundraising, board development and relations, alumni affairs, and communications. The Associate Dean oversees a team of professional staff responsible for advancement and fundraising, communications, prestigious events and public programming, and digital media. Through the execution of the Institutional Advancement portfolio, the Associate Dean champions the academic mission of the school and works to build community across the enterprise. Although fundraising has significantly increased, priorities for the position include expanding and diversifying the donor base, securing major gifts, stewarding major donors and developing a pipeline of new ones, maintaining productive relationships with strategic partners, and harnessing the power of digital communications to enhance the visibility of the college's impact is expected. The Associate Dean will ensure that CUNY MED can attract and retain a diverse and effective advancement team.

Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

+ Provides strategic leadership and management of the Advancement and Communications team - overseeing all fundraising, alumni affairs, foundation board relations, and internal and external communications.

+ Oversees planning and execution of individual, corporate, and foundation fundraising activities including cultivation and stewardship, expanding and diversifying the donor base, and ensuring that fundraising goals are established and met.

+ Oversees the creation and management of new and existing programs and initiatives, such as the CUNY Giving Tuesday, that increase donor participation and generate new resources and support for the school.

+ Works closely with developing the School's Foundation Board, maintains a strong and transparent relationship with the board; and assists with developing the foundation's operations including developing the annual foundation budget, ensuring compliance with all school and university policies, and working with the Chair of the Board and the college's Associate Dean for Finance to ensure sound fiscal management.

+ Develop and oversee the execution of strategies to engage the alumni community and grow alumni participation and giving.

+ Oversees the development and distribution of all internal and external communications, special and signature events, public programming, media, and public relations, dean's communications, digital media, social media, and crisis communications activities, ensuring the school's public face---online and through the media-is consistent with its mission and supports the achievement of its fundraising goals.

+ Serves as liaison to CUNY Central Office and Vice Chancellor for Advancement on matters related to development, fundraising, public affairs, and communications.

+ Performs other related duties as assigned by the Dean.

+ *This position may include evening and weekend hours.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the landscape of academic medicine, college, and public institutional advancement and communications, and a demonstrated commitment to furthering access and equity with a focus on inclusive excellence for underrepresented medicine students and underserved communities. They are entrepreneurial, innovative, strategic, and passionate about their role in achieving the quadripartite mission including student success, faculty talent, and discovery; experts in fundraising ethics, research, and cultivation and solicitation practices; and adept at driving creative, innovative digital communications campaigns to achieve institutional goals. They will collaborate effectively, have a strong record of building successful teams and diverse networks of internal and external partners, and actively foster an atmosphere where diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging thrive.

The preferred candidate should have these additional qualifications:

+ Master's degree and/or terminal degree; An advanced degree and at least ten years of senior-level managerial experience in complex, diverse organizational settings in both the non-profit and higher education sectors CFRE designation.

+ Experience in and knowledge of academic medicine and the health professions.

+ CFRE Certification preferred

+ Leadership experience in advancement, development, and alumni relations.

+ Demonstrated expertise in board relations and board development.

CUNY TITLE

Associate Dean

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$170,000 - $220,000

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
