Additionally, the Associate Dean facilitates implementation of nursing and maintenance of program accreditations. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesIn addition to adhering to the general guidelines as specified by the Faculty/Staff Handbook, this is a full-time administrative position with direct responsibility for the operation of the Health Science Program. The position is administratively responsible to the Dean of Instruction, the President, and Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees. Responsibilities include the following:Maintain nursing program at levels that meet standards or criteria of the Department, the College, the Department of Postsecondary Education, appropriate approval boards, and accrediting organizations,Provide oversight to the Director Health Science Program and program faculty to systematically evaluate program operation and curricula in order to plan and implement changes as indicated,Work with program director and faculty to prepare self-study reports required for national accreditation of the various Health Science programs and provide annual and quarterly reports required by the College or official state agencies,Develop and maintain working relationships with students, faculty and staff of the Health Science programs; the administration of the College; other divisions and units of the College; affiliated agencies or institutions; secondary schools; four-year schools; advisory groups; and state, regional, or national groups or agencies,With input from the Directors and Department Chairs, oversee the development of equitable teaching loads for department faculty,Review annual performance evaluations for department faculty and staff,Supervise, according to college policy and within legal guidelines, the maintenance of: (1) permanent records of students and graduates; (2) minutes of meetings; (3) copies of department policies and guidelines; (4) clinical affiliate contracts; and other records of department business or activities,Work with health science directors and department chairs to evaluate clinical affiliations and initiate new clinical contracts or assist with the process of changing affiliates to meet program needs,Approve policies regarding admission, progression, and graduation of students in the health science division and submit policies to the Dean of Instruction for final approval,Work with Student Services, Instruction Divisions, health science faculty, and staff to develop academic advising materials, and coordinate and participate in student advising during registration periods,Approve guidelines and criteria for the admission of students and work with Enrollment Services personnel to determine final lists of students admitted to the Health Science Programs,Evaluate the records of nursing students for completion of graduation requirements and for eligibility to apply to take the licensure examination,Supervise routine studies of applicants, students, and graduates of Health Science program and evaluate the need for initiation of additional studies,With input from department faculty and staff, identify operational unit priorities and propose annual budgets for the Health Science programs and supervise the expenditure of the department budget in such a way as to meet program needs and provide support services,Evaluate the need for personnel in the Health Science Division and submit requests for personnel as needed,Oversee the development and implementation of all new programs in the Health Science Division. Conduct needs assessment for new programs, develop and submit requests for new programs applications, and work with campus stakeholders to ensure the timely completion of all aspects of program approval process,Maintain knowledge of college and program policies and state and national agency guidelines to use in resolving problems,Submit recommendations for the appointment of committees and committee chairpersons as needed for the institution to engage in local, community, statewide, and national collaborations with stakeholders in the health science sector,Promote and monitor the continued professional development of the faculty and staff to ensure curricula are aligned with current industry expectations and requirements in the various health science programs,Maintain membership and participation in activities of professional organizations and meet mandatory continuing education requirements to maintain a registered nurse license and other health science program licensure in Alabama and nationally,Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Instruction and the President. QualificationsRequired Qualifications:Minimum of a Master's in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution,A minimum of three (3) years' experience in both clinical and nursing education,Current knowledge of administrative and operational processes for nursing,Successful experience in nursing program instruction, curriculum development, administration supervision and accreditation,Knowledge of nursing accreditation processes,Knowledge of management and supervisory principles,Ability to effectively communicate with others, both verbally and in writing,Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with others,Current professional liability insurance at the level of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $3,000,000 aggregate annually.Preferred Qualifications:An understanding of and a commitment to the philosophy and mission of the Alabama Community College System,Ability to handle multiple tasks and various situations in a professional manner,Knowledge of educational strategies and subject matter.
