DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The UC Santa Cruz Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS) consists of nearly 250 team members spanning 3 major units and 21 departments. Our division provides campus-wide coordination and leadership for student success programs, activities, and initiatives.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students (AVC/DOS), the Associate Dean of Students & Director of Student Conduct and Conflict Education (ADOS-SCCE) manages and provides visionary leadership for the campus-wide non-academic student conduct and conflict education systems.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $134,000 - $140,000 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Schedule Information:

  • Full-time, Fixed
  • Percentage of Time: 100%, 40 Hours per Week
  • Days of the Week: Mon-Fri
  • Shift Includes: Day

JOB DUTIES

40% - Leadership and Management of the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Education

  • Works collaboratively with the AVC/DOS and other campus leaders.
  • Provides visionary leadership and management for OSCCE.
  • Engages an equity- and student-centered approach.
  • Investigates and adjudicates disciplinary cases.
  • May chair formal hearings for non-Title IX cases.
  • Provides leadership for student peer education programs.
  • Serves as an ex officio member of the Student Conduct and Conflict Education Advisory Board.
  • Interfaces regularly with and advises senior administrators.
  • Manages the overall administration of student conduct records.
  • May represent the university in student conduct matters.
  • Manages all aspects of the Campus Conduct Board.
  • May exercise responsibility for the formal resolution of student grievances.
  • Administers the student conduct database.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Finance and Resource Management, develops and implements budgets.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Thorough knowledge of student conduct and conflict education theory and practice.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead training curricula.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, commitment to and experience working with historically marginalized or underrepresented communities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree in higher education, student development, or conflict resolution.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in both English and at least one additional language.
  • Advanced knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
  • Ability to work long periods of time at a computer.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames.
