Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for an Associate Department Head and Associate Professor. As the associate administrative and academic officer of the department, the ADH has the authority and responsibility to support the DH in the delivery of academic programs in accordance with departmental, college and university strategic plans and professional accreditation boards. Additional responsibilities include support of hiring and evaluation of department personnel, to include faculty and staff, and budgeting and resource management. This authority is subject to approval by the Dean and the Provost. As a member of the College administration, the Associate Department Head coordinates departmental activities and assists the DH with the activities of other units in the College and the University and, in collaboration with other members of the administration, assists in the development and implementation of College of Health Sciences and Professions (CHSP) initiatives. This position will report to the DH of the Physical Therapy program.
Responsibilities
* Department Leadership
* Works with the DH to assist faculty, students, and staff to establish and maintain a long-term vision for the department that is consistent with the departmental, college and university missions
* Assess department's progress in meeting department goals
* Make recommendations regarding departmental programs, policies, procedures, and practices
* Assists the DH to ensure departmental compliance with College, University, System and State rules and regulations
* Department Curriculum
* Serves as the chair of the Curriculum Committee
* Coordinate the development of classes from conceptualization to approval by college and university curriculum committees
* Complete scheduled comprehensive program reviews in accordance with USG regulations
* Assist the DH with Complete Program Assessment and assessment of courses offered in the core
* Communicate and collaborate with program coordinators as appropriate
* Communicate and collaborate with other entities across campus regarding the curriculum (University Curriculum Committee, Provost/VPAA office, Academic Standards Committee, Graduate Council)
* Coordinate the submission of reports required by accreditation and sanctioning agencies including the Southern Association for the Accreditation of Colleges and Schools (SACS), Board of Regents (BOR), professional accreditation organizations, Level 3 Strategic Planning Major Field Assessment
* Assists in the planning and initiation of new academic programs and projects when appropriate
* Department Operations
* Assists in the management of daily operations of the department
* Develop and submit class schedule
* Review and revise the university catalog regarding matters related to departmental requirements and schedules
* Monitor course registrations and make appropriate adjustments in course schedules and instructor assignments in cooperation with the Dean's Office
* Assists in the Coordination of academic policies and regulations implementation
* Communicate departmental activities and concerns as directed by the DH.
* Is knowledgeable in, and assists with communicating, policies of state agencies (Board of Regents) regarding academic policy matters, legislation, regulations and requirements to department
* Budgeting
* Assist the DH with the Development and regular monitoring of the department budget
* Assist the DH in the Review and approval of requests for funding for departmental projects
* Assist the DH in the Review and approval of departmental expenditures in compliance with college, university, and state of fiscal practices.
Personnel
* Assist in the DH in the hiring and recruitment of full time and part time faculty
* Organize files for the DH to Evaluate full time and part time faculty to include conducting Annual Performance Reviews
* As part of the Annual review process, the ADH will assist in the organization of files to be reviewed and completed by the DH
* Coordinate faculty travel and reimbursement of travel expenses submissions and progress all completed paperwork to the DH for review and consideration.
* Coordinate course load scheduling to include flexible scheduling to meet the demands of the program while also facilitating faculty clinical expertise, research and writing opportunities
* Students
* Coordinate student advisement through assignment of students to the advisor. Organize training for faculty regarding advisor roles. and review of degree progress documents
* Assist the DH with the Review of student appeals
* Meet with students, as appropriate, regarding concerns about classes, faculty, and policies
* Management and Department Recordkeeping
* Supervise the maintenance of departmental records
* Ensure that departmental documents and websites are regularly updated
* Meetings
* Participate in College Level Executive Administrative Council
* Serve on departmental, college, and university committees
* Serve on academic affairs committee and graduate council
* Faculty Responsibilities
* Teaching assignments commensurate to the needs of the department and administrative duties as assigned. Participate in research and scholarly activities in the discipline
* Participate and assist department faculty in university and community service activities as appropriate
* Participate in clinical practice activities as appropriate
Required Qualifications
* The minimum qualification includes an earned terminal academic degree and current state physical therapy license or eligible for Georgia physical therapy license. Terminal clinical degree in physical therapy (DPT) and ABPTS certification preferred.
* Evidence of research in the field of physical therapy; credentials consistent with tenure and the rank of associate professor; a record of leadership experience with the physical therapy profession or the university; evidence of successful teaching in higher education.
* Experience in the CAPTE review and accreditation process, including the writing of various documents and participation in successful site visits as required by CAPTE.
* Documented successful performance in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service.
Preferred Qualifications
* Preferred experience will include success in administration of programs in higher education to include strategic planning, budgeting, operations, and collaboration with colleagues.
* First line responsibility of CAPTE accreditation experience and FSBPT item writing preferred.
