Open Door is seeking an Associate Director, Behavioral Health (Substance Use Care & Prevention Programs). The Associate Director is responsible for the operational and clinical oversight of Open Doors substance use care and prevention and co-occurring disorder (substance use and mental health) programming. Services include individual and group clinical treatment and support, specialized care management, and educational campaigns. The Associate Director will help set the vision and strategy for this service line and ensures that services are fully integrated across all sites/departments/programs and are provided according to the patient-centered medical home model, with an emphasis on patient-focused, team-based care. Primary responsibilities include personnel management, program management, the provision of direct clinical care, and behavioral health consultation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT
- Provides supervision (including clinical supervision), coaching and mentoring to direct reports
- Oversees human resource management activities including staff recruitment, orientation/training, and competency/performance evaluation programs
- Ensures that that staff perform duties in accordance with applicable Federal, State, Open Door and program-specific policies and procedures, safety, environmental and infection control standards, guidelines and laws
- Covers staff duties in cases of planned and unexpected absences
- Plans and facilitates team meetings, plans agendas, ensures documentation of meeting activities and oversees follow-up actions as needed; ensures that staff are up-to-date on organizational initiatives and changes
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
- Oversees program operations
- Develops and disseminates programmatic policies and procedures; ensures standardized workflows
- Uses data reports to monitor progress and identifies opportunities for improvement; implements quality improvement activities to ensure achievement of metrics and deliverables
- Serves as a point of contact for grant funders; completes grant applications, report writing, data submission, and budgeting activities
- Establishes SMART goals for the programs, ensuring alignment with applicable departmental, organizational and grant deliverables; implements improvement plans as needed to ensure goal achievement
- Ensures that substance use care and prevention services are fully integrated across all sites and lines of business
- Develops and maintains relationships with leaders at collaborating agencies
- Oversees the development of materials/tools and the implementation of program-relevant social media campaigns; ensures that all patient materials, activities, and programs are current, accurate and organizationally approved as well as culturally, linguistically and educationally appropriate for the patient population
- Addresses and resolves patient/client complaints or concerns and responds to incident reports Represents Open Door at events and delivers presentations
DIRECT CLINICAL CARE
- Provides clinical diagnosis, assessment and evidence-based behavioral health treatment and substance use counseling to individuals across the lifespan via individual, family and group modalities
- Works collaboratively with the patient, primary care team and other service providers to improve patient medical outcomes; communicates regularly with other care team members
- Develops treatment plans and goals in collaboration with each patient; ensures the participation of the health care team and other service providers as appropriate
- Provides crisis intervention and conducts Warm Hand Off assessments as needed
- Accurately documents all clinical interventions, diagnosis, symptoms, presenting problems, and applicable information in the Electronic Medical Record
- Incorporates health and wellness education and referrals to other providers as appropriate
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CONSULTATION
- Maintains currency with emerging trends in substance use, mental health and co-occurring treatment and recovery; identifies strategies and opportunities for Open Door to modify or enhance current practices
- Provides training on mental health and substance use topics including co-occurring disorders
- Services as a subject matter expert, providing consultation on patient cases for staff
- Collaborates with staff to intervene directly with patients in complex situations, including accompaniment into the field if needed
- Participates, convenes and facilitates multi-disciplinary case conferences
- Other duties as assigned
COMMUNICATION
- Fosters communication within Open Door, and between Open Door and the community
- Demonstrates ability to function in a culturally sensitive manner within Open Doors philosophy and mission
PLANNING
- Attends staff and other organizational meetings, as designated, to ascertain Open Doors short- and long-range plans, programs, and goals within areas of responsibility
- Participates in staff development programs, educational activities, seminars, and training opportunities
COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times per Open Door policies and procedures
- Adheres to National Patient Safety standards as defined by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization and Open Door
- Prepares and maintains documentation in compliance with Joint Commission standards and applicable city, state, and federal laws
- Meets annual mandatory training requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Master's Degree in Social Work
- Current New York State registration and license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- New York State Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor
EXPERIENCE
- Direct service experience required, clinical experience with behavioral health and/or substance use preferred
- 5+ years of progressive experience
- Staff management and program management experience

- Culturally competent/sensitive (racial, ethnic, linguistic, LGBTQ+, physical ability, etc.) and committed to inclusive, multi-cultural programming
- Mastery of computer use, including Microsoft Office applications
- Experience using Electronic Medical Records
- Strong writing, reading and data analysis skills
- Fluent in Spanish
