Job Description:

The Associate Director of the Center for Student Diversity & Inclusion will coordinate educational programming and support services for the various diverse populations at Suffolk University. This position will focus on matters that most affect LGBTQIA+ and ally populations and will serve as the primary resource for LGBTQIA+ programs and resources. This individual will be dedicated to working in a collaborative environment, committed to furthering the intellectual, moral, and social development of students.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of the Diversity Peer Education Program:
    • Manage the Diversity Peer Educator Program, including hiring, training, and supervision of student peer educators and supporting the development in facilitating social justice and diversity workshops, completion of projects, as well as heritage, cultural, and awareness month programming.
    • Responsible for providing leadership development and education in peer education and integrating DEIB initiatives.
  • Education & Training in collaboration with Diversity Peer Educators & Director:
    • Assist with designing, coordinating, and facilitating DEI educational initiatives for students and staff, as requested including trainings, workshops, coaching, and other educational opportunities.
    • Develop and co-lead year-round trainings that contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills and strategies to engage with diverse populations.
    • Provide quality, customizable trainings and workshops for the Suffolk University community, including specialized trainings for special populations and leadership bodies.
    • Collaborate with university stakeholders to ensure coherence and mutual reinforcement of educational initiatives as they fit into advancing the university's overall diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, strategy, and approach.
  • Programming & Assessment:
    • Collaborate and assist other staff in the development and coordination of programs, events, and services.
    • Conduct comprehensive assessment and evaluation of educational initiatives and learning to ensure compliance with goals, funding, and campus needs.
    • Develop tools and measures to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and educational materials and provide outcome reporting on a regular basis.
    • Conduct surveys, focus groups, or perform other methods of data collection in order to create metrics and track outcomes.
  • General Departmental Duties:
    • Along with the Director, provide frontline support and referral services for all students who contact the office for assistance.
    • Manage the department's website content.
    • Coordinate the department's marketing, communication, and social media efforts in collaboration with the Director and office coordinator.
    • Represent the university/division on committees outside of the university.
    • Represent the department on various university committees and working groups as assigned.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Requirements/Qualifications:

    • Master's degree preferred in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Social Justice, Sociology, or related field.
    • 3-5 years of experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion, student involvement/programs, or related student affairs setting is preferred.
      • Demonstrated leadership, organization, management, and platform skills; an ability to oversee a wide variety of activities; attention to detail and ability to work independently.
      • Demonstrated understanding of key concepts in the equity and social justice education topics of race and racism, gender identity and expression, ability, socioeconomics, power dynamics, protected classes, microaggressions, and the intersectionality of identities.
      • Experience designing and delivering highly impactful social justice and diversity trainings and workshops.
      • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
      • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as listening and advocacy skills.
      • Strong professional and ethical standards on which to serve as a role model to a diverse student constituency. Ability to build working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
      • Ability to work after hours on occasion. The position will require working some nights and weekends as necessary.
